All applicants for a license to practice as a Registered\n\nNurse shall be subject to Section 567.8 of this title.\n\nB. An applicant for a license to practice as a Registered Nurse\n\nshall submit to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing certified written\n\nevidence that the applicant:\n\n1. Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school\n\nof nursing approved by a state board of nursing, and holds or is\n\nentitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom;\n\n2. Has never been convicted of a felony crime that\n\nsubstantially relates to the occupation of nursing and poses a\n\nreasonable threat to public safety;\n\n3. Has submitted a criminal history records search that\n\ncomplies with Section 567.18 of this title;\n\n4. Is a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age; and\n\n5. Has met such other qualifications as the Board may prescribe\n\nin its rules.\n\nC. An applicant for a license shall be required to pass a\n\nwritten examination in such subjects as the Board may determine.\n\nUpon an applicant successfully passing such an examination, the\n\nBoard may issue to the applicant a license to practice as a\n\nRegistered Nurse. An applicant who fails such examination shall be\n\nsubject to reexamination according to the rules of the Board. The\n\npassing criteria shall be established by the Board in its rules.\n\nD. The Board may issue a license to practice nursing as a\n\nregistered nurse without examination to an applicant who has been\n\nduly licensed as a Registered Nurse under the laws of another state,\n\nterritory, the District of Columbia or a foreign country, if such\n\napplicant meets the qualifications required for licensing as a\n\nRegistered Nurse in this state.\n\nE. Any person who holds a license to practice as a registered\n\nnurse in this state shall have the right to use both the title\n\n\"Registered Nurse\" and the abbreviation \"R.N.\" No other person\n\nshall assume such title or use such abbreviation, or any other\n\nwords, letters, signs or figures to indicate that the person using\n\nthe same is a registered nurse. Any individual doing so shall be\n\nguilty of a misdemeanor, which shall be punishable, upon conviction,\n\nby imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one (1) year or\n\nby a fine of not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) nor more\n\nthan One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), or by both such imprisonment\n\nand fine for each offense.\n\nF. As used in this section:\n\n1. \"Substantially relates\" means the nature of criminal conduct\n\nfor which the person was convicted has a direct bearing on the\n\nfitness or ability to perform one or more of the duties or\n\nresponsibilities necessarily related to the occupation; and\n\n2. \"Poses a reasonable threat\" means the nature of criminal\n\nconduct for which the person was convicted involved an act or threat\n\nof harm against another and has a bearing on the fitness or ability\n\nto serve the public or work with others in the occupation.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"aea10e6a87baaf2108c4a66915e232a111275f84971b60fa08a64c213d46f965","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-567.4c","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-567.5a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
