All applicants for a license to practice as a Licensed\n\nPractical Nurse shall be subject to Section 567.8 of this title.\n\nB. An applicant for a license to practice as a Licensed\n\nPractical Nurse shall submit to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing\n\ncertified evidence that the applicant:\n\n1. Has successfully completed the prescribed curricula in a\n\nstate-approved program of practical nursing and holds or is entitled\n\nto hold a diploma or certificate therefrom, or equivalent courses in\n\na state-approved program of nursing;\n\n2. Has never been convicted of a felony crime that\n\nsubstantially relates to the occupation of nursing and poses a\n\nreasonable threat to public safety;\n\n3. Has submitted a criminal history records search that\n\ncomplies with Section 567.18 of this title;\n\n4. Is a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age; and\n\n5. Has met such other reasonable preliminary qualification\n\nrequirements as the Board may prescribe.\n\nC. The applicant for a license to practice as a Licensed\n\nPractical Nurse shall be required to pass a written examination in\n\nsuch subjects as the Board may require. Upon the applicant\n\nsuccessfully passing such examination the Board may issue to the\n\napplicant a license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. An\n\napplicant who fails such examination shall be subject to\n\nreexamination according to the rules of the Board. The passing\n\ncriteria shall be established by the Board in its rules.\n\nD. The Board may issue a license to practice as a Licensed\n\nPractical Nurse without examination to any applicant who has been\n\nduly licensed or registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or is\n\nentitled to perform similar services under a different title,\n\naccording to the laws of another state, territory, the District of\n\nColumbia or a foreign country if such applicant meets the\n\nrequirements for Licensed Practical Nurses in the State of Oklahoma.\n\nE. Any person holding a license to practice as a licensed\n\nattendant issued by the Board, which is valid on July 1, 1953, shall\n\nbe deemed to be a Licensed Practical Nurse under the provisions of\n\nthis act.\n\nF. Any person who holds a license to practice as a Licensed\n\nPractical Nurse in this state shall have the right to use both the\n\ntitle \"Licensed Practical Nurse\" and the abbreviation \"L.P.N.\" No\n\nother person shall assume such title or use such abbreviation or any\n\nother words, letters, signs, or figures to indicate that the person\n\nusing the same is a Licensed Practical Nurse.\n\nAny individual doing so shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, which\n\nshall be punishable, upon conviction, by imprisonment in the county\n\njail for not more than one (1) year or by a fine of not less than\n\nOne Hundred Dollars ($100.00) nor more than One Thousand Dollars\n\n($1,000.00), or by both such imprisonment and fine for each offense.\n\nG. As used in this section:\n\n1. \"Substantially relates\" means the nature of criminal conduct\n\nfor which the person was convicted has a direct bearing on the\n\nfitness or ability to perform one or more of the duties or\n\nresponsibilities necessarily related to the occupation; and\n\n2. \"Poses a reasonable threat\" means the nature of criminal\n\nconduct for which the person was convicted involved an act or threat\n\nof harm against another and has a bearing on the fitness or ability\n\nto serve the public or work with others in the occupation.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"c62133c2bc712c3df34cc02827c41660ad46c5d2c587a0dbe5f854cb2f1f0f58","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-567.5c","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-567.6a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
