The practice of optometry is defined to be the science and\n\nart of examining the human eye and measurement of the powers of\n\nvision by the employment of any means, including the use or\n\nfurnishing of any self-testing device, the use of any computerized\n\nor automatic refracting device, including applications designed to\n\nbe used on a computer or video conferencing via an Internet device\n\neither in person or in remote locations, the use of pharmaceutical\n\nagents, the diagnosis of conditions of the human eye, and the\n\ncorrecting and relief of ocular abnormalities by means including but\n\nnot limited to prescribing and adaptation of lenses, contact lenses,\n\nspectacles, eyeglasses, prisms and the employment of vision therapy\n\nor orthoptics for the aid thereof, low vision rehabilitation, laser\n\nsurgery procedures, excluding retina, laser in-situ keratomileusis\n\n(LASIK), and cosmetic lid surgery. The practice of optometry is\n\nfurther defined to be nonlaser surgery procedures as authorized by\n\nthe Oklahoma Board of Examiners in Optometry, pursuant to rules\n\npromulgated under the Administrative Procedures Act.\n\nB. The practice of optometry shall also include the prescribing\n\nof dangerous drugs and controlled dangerous substances for all\n\nschedules specified in the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances\n\nAct except Schedules I and II but allowing for the prescribing of\n\nhydrocodone or hydrocodone-containing drugs regardless of schedule\n\nfor a period not exceeding five (5) days of supply, and the issuance\n\nof refills for such prescriptions following sufficient physical\n\nexamination of the patient for the purpose of diagnosis and\n\ntreatment of ocular abnormalities. The practice of optometry shall\n\ninclude the dispensing of medications to treat ocular abnormalities\n\nand may include the dispensing of professional samples of\n\nmedications to treat ocular abnormalities to patients.\n\nC. The scope of the delivery of care as defined in subsections\n\nA and B of this section to an individual who is physically located\n\nin this state at the time care is delivered shall constitute the\n\npractice of optometry.\n\nD. Optometrists shall be certified by the Board of Examiners in\n\nOptometry prior to administering drugs, prescribing drugs, or\n\nperforming laser or nonlaser surgery procedures.\n\nE.
