Every person desiring to commence the practice of optometry\n\nexcept as hereinafter provided, upon presentation of satisfactory\n\nevidence, verified by oath, that he is more than twenty-one (21)\n\nyears of age and has met the undergraduate requirements and is a\n\ngraduate of an accredited school of optometry, conferring the degree\n\nof Doctor of Optometry or its equivalent, shall, upon application,\n\nbe examined by the Board of Examiners to determine his or her\n\nqualifications, and such examination shall be based upon the\n\nsubjects taught in the standard schools and colleges of optometry,\n\nsuch as general and ocular pharmacology, anatomy of the eyes, use of\n\nthe ophthalmoscope, retinoscope and the use of trial lenses, general\n\nanatomy, physiology, physics, chemistry, biology, bacteriology,\n\nocular pathology, ocular neurology, ocular myology, psychology,\n\nphysiological optics, optometrical mechanics, clinical optometry,\n\nvisual field charting and orthoptics, the general laws of optics and\n\nrefraction, as is essential to the practice of optometry. Every\n\ncandidate successfully passing such examination shall be registered\n\nby the Board as possessing the qualifications as required by Section\n\n581 et seq. of this title and shall receive from the Board a\n\ncertificate thereof. Every optometrist desiring to use dangerous\n\ndrugs and controlled dangerous substances as specified in Section\n\n581 of this title shall have satisfactorily completed courses in\n\ngeneral and ocular pharmacology at an institution accredited by the\n\nCouncil on Post-Secondary Accreditation or the United States\n\nDepartment of Education. The Board of Examiners in Optometry shall\n\napprove such courses and shall certify those qualified by such\n\ntraining to use dangerous drugs and controlled dangerous substances\n\nas specified in Section 581 of this title. The use of any such\n\npharmaceuticals by an optometrist or the obtaining of same by an\n\noptometrist shall be unlawful unless said optometrist is in\n\npossession of a current certificate as provided in this section.\n\nSuch optometrist shall furnish evidence to any pharmacist or other\n\nsupplier from whom such pharmaceuticals are sought as to his holding\n\na current certificate. The Board may, in its discretion, issue said\n\ncertificates to practice, to persons otherwise qualified under this\n\nact, who have established by legal proof their knowledge of\n\noptometry, as shown by previous examination in any state of the\n\nUnion; provided, the examination in said state was, at the time\n\ntaken, of an equal standard with that of this state; provided,\n\nfurther, that citizens of this state are by the statutes of said\n\nstate, admitted to practice on like conditions.\n\nB. Every person desiring to commence the practice of optometry\n\nshall be required to submit to a national criminal history record\n\ncheck, as defined in Section 150.9 of Title 74 of the Oklahoma\n\nStatutes.
