Stat. tit. 59, § 59-621","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Oklahoma Osteopathic Medicine Act:\n\n1. “Board” means the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners;\n\n2. “Osteopathic medicine” means a patient-centered system of\n\nhealth care founded by Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., D.O., and based on\n\nthe theory that the body is capable of making its own remedies\n\nagainst disease and other toxic conditions when it is in a normal\n\nstructural relationship and has favorable environmental conditions\n\nand adequate nutrition. Osteopathic medicine emphasizes prevention\n\nand wellness and utilizes generally accepted physical,\n\npharmacological and surgical methods of diagnosis and therapy while\n\nplacing strong emphasis on the importance of body mechanics and\n\nmanipulative methods to detect and correct faulty structure and\n\nfunction;\n\n3. “Osteopathic physician” means a person who is licensed to\n\npractice osteopathic medicine in this state; and\n\n4. “School of osteopathic medicine” or “college of osteopathic\n\nmedicine” means a legally chartered school or college accredited by\n\nthe Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation requiring:\n\na. for admission to its courses of study, a preliminary\n\neducation equal to the requirements established by the\n\nAmerican Osteopathic Association, and\n\nb. for granting the D.O. degree, Doctor of Osteopathic\n\nMedicine, actual attendance at such osteopathic school\n\nor college and demonstration of successful completion\n\nof the curriculum and recommendation for graduation.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"eed109a052fc7ee3c8817ee0606b3d35f3692e9d7f2e69cf748b5acf6c6707bd","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-620","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-622"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
