Stat. tit. 59, § 59-646.1","heading":"Definitions","body":"\n\nAs used in this act:\n\n1. \"Assessment mechanism\":\n\na. means automated or virtual equipment, application or\n\ntechnology designed to be used on a telephone, a\n\ncomputer or an Internet-based device that may be used\n\neither in person or remotely to conduct an eye\n\nassessment, and\n\nb. includes artificial intelligence devices and any\n\nequipment, electronic or nonelectronic, that is used\n\nto perform an eye assessment;\n\n2. \"Contact lens\" means any lens placed directly on the surface\n\nof the eye, regardless of whether or not it is intended to correct a\n\nvisual defect, including any cosmetic, therapeutic or corrective\n\nlens;\n\n3. \"Eye assessment\" means an assessment of the ocular health\n\nand/or visual refractive status of a patient that may include but is\n\nnot limited to objective refractive data or information generated by\n\nan automated testing device, including an autorefractor or Internet-\n\nbased assessment method, in order to establish a medical diagnosis\n\nor refractive diagnosis for the correction of vision disorders;\n\n4. \"Person\" means an individual, corporation, trust,\n\npartnership, incorporated or unincorporated association and any\n\nother legal entity;\n\n5. \"Prescription\" means a handwritten or electronic order\n\nissued by an Oklahoma-licensed optometrist, or an oral order issued\n\ndirectly by an Oklahoma-licensed optometrist;\n\n6. \"Seller\" means an individual or entity that sells contact\n\nlenses or visual aid glasses and dispenses them to Oklahoma\n\nresidents in any manner; and\n\n7. \"Visual aid glasses\":\n\na. means eyeglasses, spectacles or lenses designed or\n\nused to correct visual defects, including spectacles\n\nthat may be adjusted by the wearer to achieve\n\ndifferent types or levels of visual correction or\n\nenhancement, and\n\nb. does not include optical instruments or devices that\n\nare:\n\n(1) not intended to correct or enhance vision,\n\n(2) sold without consideration of the visual status\n\nof the individual who will use the optical\n\ninstrument or device, including sunglasses that\n\nare designed and used solely to filter out light,\n\nor\n\n(3) completely assembled eyeglasses or spectacles\n\ndesigned and used solely to magnify.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"f2d96420858c806a8f5875a7ec488e6af03e5212c5901dd0ffeacdcebd7d7db5","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-645.1","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-646.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
