Stat. tit. 59, § 59-698.12","heading":"Acts not prohibited","body":"The Oklahoma Veterinary Practice Act shall not be construed to\n\nprohibit:\n\n1. Acts of animal husbandry consisting of dehorning, branding,\n\ntagging or notching ears, teeth floating, farriery, pregnancy\n\nchecking by transrectal palpation, collecting semen, preparing\n\nsemen, freezing semen, castrating, worming, vaccinating, injecting\n\nor nonsurgical artificial insemination of farm animals; or the acts\n\nor conduct of a person advising with respect to nutrition, feeds or\n\nfeeding; and such other acts designated by administrative rule of\n\nthe Board which may be recommended by the Animal Technology Advisory\n\nCommittee;\n\n2. The owner of an animal or the owner's employees or helpers\n\nfrom caring for or treating animals belonging to the owner; provided\n\nthat, the acts of the owner's employees or helpers otherwise\n\nprohibited by the Oklahoma Veterinary Practice Act are only an\n\nincidental part of the employment duties and for which no special\n\ncompensation is made;\n\n3. Acts of a person in lawful possession of an animal for some\n\nother purpose than practicing veterinary medicine; provided that, no\n\ncharge may be made or included in any other charge or fee or\n\nadjustment otherwise made of any charge or fee for acts performed\n\npursuant to this subsection unless the acts are performed by a\n\nlicensed veterinarian as provided by the Oklahoma Veterinary\n\nPractice Act;\n\n4. Acts of auction markets and other shippers of food animals\n\nin preparing such animals for shipment;\n\n5. Acts of a person who is a student in good standing in a\n\nveterinary school, in performing duties or functions assigned by the\n\nstudent’s instructors, or working under the direct supervision of a\n\nlicensed veterinarian for each individual case and acts performed by\n\nan instructor or student in a school of veterinary medicine\n\nrecognized by the Board and performed as a part of the educational\n\nand training curriculum of the school under the direct supervision\n\nof faculty. The unsupervised or unauthorized practice of veterinary\n\nmedicine even though on the premises of a school of veterinary\n\nmedicine is prohibited;\n\n6. Acts of any employee in the course of employment by the\n\nfederal government or acts of a veterinarian practicing on property\n\nand persons outside the jurisdiction of the State of Oklahoma;\n\n7. A veterinarian currently licensed in another state from\n\nconsulting with a licensed veterinarian of this state;\n\n8. Acts of agriculture education instructors or students while\n\nengaged in regular agriculture education instruction in programs\n\napproved by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology\n\nEducation; provided that said acts are under the supervision of\n\ninstructors and are carried out in the usual course of instruction\n\nand not as independent practice by an unlicensed veterinarian\n\nwithout supervision;\n\n9. Any person employed by a licensed veterinarian who is\n\nassisting with the professional duties of the licensed veterinarian\n\nand who is under the direct supervision of the licensed veterinarian\n\nfrom administering medication or rendering auxiliary or supporting\n\nassistance under the direct supervision of such licensed\n\nveterinarian, provided that the practice is conducted in compliance\n\nwith all laws of this state and rules of this Board;\n\n10. Any chiropractic physician licensed in this state who is\n\ncertified by the Board of Chiropractic Examiners to engage in animal\n\nchiropractic diagnosis and treatment from practicing animal\n\nchiropractic diagnosis and treatment;\n\n11. Any chiropractic physician licensed in this state who is\n\nnot certified to practice animal chiropractic diagnosis and\n\ntreatment by the Board of Chiropractic Examiners from providing\n\nchiropractic treatment to an animal referred to such chiropractic\n\nphysician by a licensed veterinarian;\n\n12. Any individual that is certified in animal massage therapy\n\nand acquires liability insurance from engaging in animal massage\nhysician licensed in this state who is\n\nnot certified to practice animal chiropractic diagnosis and\n\ntreatment by the Board of Chiropractic Examiners from providing\n\nchiropractic treatment to an animal referred to such chiropractic\n\nphysician by a licensed veterinarian;\n\n12. Any individual that is certified in animal massage therapy\n\nand acquires liability insurance from engaging in animal massage\n\ntherapy after referral from a licensed veterinarian;\n\n13. Any individual that is certified by the State Board of\n\nVeterinary Medical Examiners and pays a certification fee of Two\n\nHundred Dollars ($200.00) under subsection A of Section 698.30 of\n\nthis title from engaging in nonveterinary equine dental care; or\n\n14. Any individual that is certified by the Board pursuant to\n\nSection 3 of this act and pays a certification fee of Two Hundred\n\nDollars ($200.00) from providing nonveterinary reproductive services\n\nas defined by Section 698.2 of this title.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"6f5b80cae7e994836c82d35d33a99aec3ca68e49e7dee7d53ec37516724eca5e","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-698.11","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-698.14a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
