Stat. tit. 59, § 59-698.26","heading":"Unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine –","body":"Emergency treatment – Improper use of title - Penalties.\n\nA. It is unlawful for a registered veterinary technician,\n\nveterinary technologist, nurse, veterinary assistant or other\n\nemployee to diagnose animal diseases, prescribe medical or surgical\n\ntreatment, or perform as a surgeon and such acts shall constitute\n\nthe unlawful practice of veterinary medicine as prohibited in\n\nSection 698.18 of this title.\n\nB. It is unlawful for any person to assume the title of\n\nregistered veterinary technician, or the abbreviation RVT, or any\n\nother words, letters, signs, or figures that might induce a person\n\nto believe that the person using the name is a registered veterinary\n\ntechnician, when in fact such person is not certified.\n\nC. A registered veterinary technician may perform emergency\n\ntreatments in a life saving situation in accordance with rules\n\npromulgated by the Board.\n\nD. Except as provided in Section 698.18 of this title, any\n\nperson certified as a veterinary technician, veterinary\n\ntechnologist, veterinary nurse, or veterinary assistant who\n\npractices veterinary medicine contrary to the provisions of the\n\nOklahoma Veterinary Practice Act, or any person who aids or abets\n\nanother in the practice or attempted practice as a veterinary\n\ntechnician, veterinary technologist, veterinary nurse, or veterinary\n\nassistant without license or certification, or any person violating\n\nany provision of subsection B of this section, upon conviction,\n\nshall be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less\n\nthan Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) nor more than Two Thousand Five\n\nHundred Dollars ($2,500.00), or by imprisonment in the county jail\n\nfor a term of not less than thirty (30) days, nor more than six (6)\n\nmonths, or by both such fine and imprisonment. In addition to\n\ncriminal penalties, the violator shall be subject to denial,\n\nrevocation, suspension, probation or nonrenewal of certification by\n\nthe Board.\n\nE. The penalties provided in subsection D of this section shall\n\nnot apply to a student enrolled in an accredited school of\n\nveterinary technology while the student is under the supervision of\n\nan instructor and is performing activities required as a part of the\n\nstudent's training.\n\nF. Any veterinarian licensed in this state who permits or\n\ndirects a veterinary technician, veterinary technologist, veterinary\n\nnurse, aide or animal attendant to perform a task or procedure in\n\nviolation of the provisions of the Oklahoma Veterinary Practice Act,\n\nupon conviction, shall be guilty of aiding or abetting the\n\nunlicensed practice of veterinary medicine as prohibited by Section\n\n698.18 of this title, and shall be, in addition to any criminal\n\npenalties, subject to revocation, probation, nonrenewal or\n\nsuspension of license by the Board.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"44de4ee20d12f1e73d0decde80578cbfe3c9c42e3a6ece2e7693b92badd3486b","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-698.25","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-698.28"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
