Stat. tit. 59, § 59-887.2","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Physical Therapy Practice Act:\n\n1. “Physical therapy” means the care and services provided by\n\nor under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist who\n\nis licensed pursuant to the Physical Therapy Practice Act;\n\n2. “Practice of physical therapy” means the use of selected\n\nknowledge and skills in planning, organizing and directing programs\n\nfor the care of individuals whose ability to function is impaired or\n\nthreatened by disease or injury, encompassing preventive measures,\n\nscreening, tests in aid of diagnosis by a licensed doctor of\n\nmedicine, osteopathy, chiropractic, dentistry or podiatry, or a\n\nphysician assistant, and evaluation and invasive or noninvasive\n\nprocedures with emphasis on the skeletal system, neuromuscular and\n\ncardiopulmonary function, as it relates to physical therapy.\n\nPhysical therapy includes screening or evaluations performed to\n\ndetermine the degree of impairment of relevant aspects such as, but\n\nnot limited to, nerve and muscle function including transcutaneous\n\nbioelectrical potentials, motor development, functional capacity and\n\nrespiratory or circulatory efficiency. Physical therapy also\n\nincludes physical therapy treatment performed including, but not\n\nlimited to, exercises for increasing or restoring strength,\n\nendurance, coordination and range of motion, stimuli to facilitate\n\nmotor activity and learning, instruction in activities of daily\n\nliving and the use of assistive devices and the application of\n\nphysical agents to relieve pain or alter physiological status.\n\nPhysical therapy services may be provided in person or remotely, via\n\ntelehealth, to individuals or groups. The use of roentgen rays and\n\nradium for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, the use of\n\nelectricity for surgical purposes, including cauterization and\n\ncolonic irrigations are not authorized under the term “physical\n\ntherapy” as used in this chapter;\n\n3. “Physical therapist assistant” means a person who assists in\n\nthe practice of physical therapy subject to the direction and\n\nsupervision of a licensed physical therapist, who meets all the\n\neducational requirements, and who is licensed pursuant to the\n\nprovisions of the Physical Therapy Practice Act;\n\n4. “Licensed physical therapist” means a person who is licensed\n\nas required in the Physical Therapy Practice Act and who regularly\n\npractices physical therapy;\n\n5. “Board” means the State Board of Medical Licensure and\n\nSupervision;\n\n6. “Committee” means the Physical Therapy Committee;\n\n7. “Telehealth” means the use of electronic information and\n\ntelecommunications technologies to support long-distance clinical\n\nhealth care, patient and professional health-related education,\n\npublic health and health administration; and\n\n8. “Telecommunication” means the use of audio, video or other\n\nelectronic media to deliver health care in real-time or through the\n\nuse of store-and-forward technology.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"cc08e50ea679ab966c9dc25f91ea9d331fb2b52fcbd37ce168f30059ee515f76","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-887.19","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-887.3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
