There is hereby established the Music Therapy Committee to\n\nadvise the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision on all\n\nmatters pertaining to the licensure, education and continuing\n\neducation of licensed music therapists and the practice of music\n\ntherapy.\n\nB. 1. The Board shall appoint five (5) members to the Music\n\nTherapy Committee as follows:\n\na. three members shall, upon initial appointment, be\n\nqualified persons who have been actively practicing\n\nmusic therapy in this state for at least three (3)\n\nyears; provided, their successors shall be licensed\n\nmusic therapists,\n\nb. one member shall be a licensed health care provider\n\nwho is not a music therapist, and\n\nc. one member shall be a lay person.\n\n2. The professional members of the Committee shall be appointed\n\nfor staggered terms of one (l), two (2) and three (3) years,\n\nrespectively. Terms of office of each appointed member shall expire\n\nJuly 1 of that year in which they expire regardless of the calendar\n\ndate when such appointments were made. Subsequent appointments\n\nshall be made for a term of three (3) years or until successors are\n\nappointed and qualified.\n\na. The lay member and licensed health care provider\n\nmember shall be initially appointed to fill these two\n\nnew positions created pursuant to this act and shall\n\nbe appointed for staggered terms of office which will\n\nexpire July 1, 2019, and July 1, 2020. Thereafter,\n\nmembers appointed to these positions shall serve for\n\nterms of three (3) years or until successors are\n\nappointed and qualified.\n\nb. Vacancies shall be filled by the Board in the same\n\nmanner as the original appointment.\n\n3. Members of the Committee shall serve without compensation.\n\nC. The Committee shall have the power and duty to:\n\n1. Meet at least twice a year or as otherwise called by the\n\nBoard;\n\n2. Advise the Board on all matters pertaining to the licensure,\n\neducation and continuing education requirements for and practice of\n\nmusic therapy in this state;\n\n3. Facilitate the development of materials that the Board may\n\nutilize to educate the public concerning music therapist licensure,\n\nthe benefits of music therapy, and utilization of music therapy by\n\nindividuals and in facilities or institutional settings;\n\n4. Facilitate the statewide dissemination of information\n\nbetween music therapists, the American Music Therapy Association or\n\nany successor organization, the Certification Board for Music\n\nTherapists or any successor organization, and the Board;\n\n5. Assist and advise the Board in all hearings involving music\n\ntherapists who are deemed to be in violation of the Music Therapy\n\nPractice Act; and\n\n6.
