Except as otherwise provided by law, the State Board of\n\nMedical Licensure and Supervision shall issue a license to an\n\napplicant for a music therapy license when such applicant has\n\ncompleted and submitted an application upon a form and in such\n\nmanner as the Board prescribes, accompanied by applicable fees, and\n\nevidence satisfactory to the Board that the applicant:\n\n1. Is at least eighteen (18) years of age;\n\n2. Holds a bachelor's degree or higher in music therapy, or its\n\nequivalent, from a program approved by the American Music Therapy\n\nAssociation or any successor organization within an accredited\n\ncollege or university;\n\n3. Successfully completed a minimum of one thousand two hundred\n\n(1,200) hours of clinical training, with at least fifteen percent\n\n(15%) or one hundred eighty (180) hours in preinternship\n\nexperiences, and at least seventy-five percent (75%) or nine hundred\n\n(900) hours in internship experiences. Internship programs may be\n\napproved by an academic institution, the American Music Therapy\n\nAssociation, or both;\n\n4. Is in good standing based on a review of the applicant's\n\nmusic therapy licensure history in other jurisdictions, including a\n\nreview of any alleged misconduct or neglect in the practice of music\n\ntherapy on the part of the applicant; and\n\n5. Passed the examination for board certification offered by\n\nthe Certification Board for Music Therapists or any successor\n\norganization or provides proof of being transitioned into board\n\ncertification, and the applicant is currently a board-certified\n\nmusic therapist.\n\nB. The Board shall issue a music therapy license to an\n\napplicant when such applicant has completed and submitted an\n\napplication upon a form and in such manner as the Board prescribes,\n\naccompanied by applicable fees, and evidence satisfactory to the\n\nBoard that the applicant is licensed and in good standing as a music\n\ntherapist in another jurisdiction where the qualifications required\n\nare equal to or greater than those required in this act at the date\n\nof application.\n\nC. The Board shall waive the examination requirement until\n\nJanuary 1, 2020, for an applicant who is designated as a registered\n\nmusic therapist, certified music therapist or advanced certified\n\nmusic therapist and in good standing with the National Music Therapy\n\nRegistry.\n\nD.
