Stat. tit. 61, § 61-4","heading":"Public contracts made on basis of eight-hour day","body":"All contracts hereafter made by or on behalf of the state, or by\n\nor on behalf of any county, city, township, or other municipality,\n\nwith any corporation, person or persons, for the performance of any\n\npublic work, by or on behalf of the state or any county, city,\n\ntownship, or other municipality, shall be deemed and considered as\n\nmade upon the basis of eight (8) hours constituting a day's work;\n\nand it shall be unlawful for such corporation, person or persons to\n\nrequire, aid, abet, assist, connive at, or permit any laborer,\n\nworkman, mechanic, prison guards, janitors in public institutions,\n\nor other person to work more than eight hours per calendar day in\n\ndoing such work, except in cases and upon the conditions provided in\n\nSection 3 of this title.\n\nProvided that the provisions of this act in regard to hours\n\nworked per calendar day shall not apply to the construction,\n\nreconstruction, maintenance, or the production of local materials\n\nfor: Highways, roads, streets, and all the structures and drainage\n\nin connection therewith; sewer systems, waterworks systems, dams and\n\nlevees, canals, drainage ditches, airport grading, drainage,\n\nsurfacing, seeding and planting. Provided that the provisions of\n\nthis act will not prevent employees from drawing time and half for\n\nthose hours worked over forty (40) during any calendar week.\n\nR.L. 1910, § 3758; Laws 1949, p. 413, § 1.
