It shall be unlawful for the board of county commissioners,\n\nthe county purchasing agent, the city council or the commissioners\n\nof any city, the trustees of any town, township board, or any member\n\nor members of the aforesaid commissioners, or of any of the above-\n\nnamed boards, to willfully or knowingly make any contract for,\n\nincur, acknowledge, approve, allow or authorize any indebtedness\n\nagainst their respective city, town or county or authorize it to be\n\ndone by others, in excess of the estimate made and approved by the\n\nexcise board for such purpose for the current fiscal year, or in\n\nexcess of the specific amount authorized for such purpose by a bond\n\nissue.\n\nB. Any such indebtedness, contracted, incurred, acknowledged,\n\napproved, allowed or authorized in excess of the estimate made and\n\napproved for such purposes for the current fiscal year or in excess\n\nof the specific amount authorized for such purpose by a bond issue,\n\nshall not be a charge against the city, town or county whose officer\n\nor officers contracted, incurred, acknowledged, approved, allowed or\n\nauthorized or attested the evidence of said indebtedness, but may be\n\ncollected by civil action from any official willfully or knowingly\n\ncontracting, incurring, acknowledging, approving or authorizing or\n\nattesting to the indebtedness, or from the bondsmen of the official.","path":["OK Code","Title 62"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os62.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"b3546afa717132d18b380bba4f01b87bcf484182fa1c82fa5239b7f2c33ec9eb","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-62-62-478","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-62-62-48"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
