Stat. tit. 63, § 63-1-1112","heading":"Adding substances to food","body":"Any poisonous or deleterious substance added to any food, except\n\nwhere such substance is required in the production thereof or cannot\n\nbe avoided by good manufacturing practice, shall be deemed to be\n\nunsafe for purposes of the application of clause (2) of Section\n\n1109(a) of this article, but when such substance is so required or\n\ncannot be so avoided, the State Board of Health shall promulgate\n\nreasonable rules and regulations limiting the quantity therein or\n\nthereon to such extent as the Board finds necessary for the\n\nprotection of public health, and any quantity exceeding the limits\n\nso fixed shall also be deemed to be unsafe for purposes of the\n\napplication of clause (2) of Section 1109(a) of this article. While\n\nsuch reasonable rules and regulations are in effect limiting the\n\nquantity of any such substance in the case of any food, such food\n\nshall not, by reason of bearing or containing any added amount of\n\nsuch substance, be considered to be adulterated within the meaning\n\nof clause (1) of Section 1109(a) of this article.
