Stat. tit. 63, § 63-1-224","heading":"Election on constitutional levy","body":"An election to authorize a levy under the provisions of the\n\npreceding section may be called by the board of county\n\ncommissioners, in its official discretion. Such election may also\n\nbe called by initiative petition filed with the county clerk, signed\n\nby sixteen percent (16%) of the legal voters of the county, such\n\npercent to be based upon the total number of votes cast at the last\n\ngeneral election in the county for the state office receiving the\n\nhighest number of votes at such election in the county. Whenever\n\nthe election is called by either method, the board of county\n\ncommissioners shall fix the date for the election and shall cause to\n\nbe published in at least one issue each week, for four (4) weeks, of\n\na newspaper having general circulation in the county, a notice\n\nstating that the election has been called, the date and purpose of\n\nthe election, and the number of mills on the dollar of assessed\n\nvaluation of the county to be voted upon; and the notice may contain\n\nany other information believed appropriate by the board. The\n\nelection shall be conducted by the county election board, in the\n\nsame manner as elections to select county officers, and the cost of\n\nholding the election shall be paid from county funds.
