Stat. tit. 63, § 63-1-243","heading":"Requirements concerning perinatal mental health","body":"disorders.\n\nA. As used in this section:\n\n1. \"Hospital\" shall have the same meaning as such term is\n\ndefined in Section 1-701 of Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statutes;\n\n2. \"Licensed health care professional\" means a licensed\n\nallopathic or osteopathic physician, a licensed Advanced Practice\n\nRegistered Nurse or a licensed physician assistant;\n\n3. \"Postnatal care\" means an office visit to a licensed health\n\ncare professional occurring after birth, with reference to the\n\ninfant or mother;\n\n4. \"Prenatal care\" means an office visit to a licensed health\n\ncare professional for pregnancy-related care occurring before birth;\n\nand\n\n5. \"Questionnaire\" means an assessment tool administered by a\n\nlicensed health care professional to detect perinatal mental health\n\ndisorders, such as the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, the\n\nPostpartum Depression Screening Scale, the Beck Depression\n\nInventory, the Patient Health Questionnaire or other validated\n\nassessment methods.\n\nB. The State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, the\n\nState Board of Osteopathic Examiners and the State Board of Nursing\n\nmay work with hospitals and licensed health care professionals in\n\nthis state to develop policies, procedures, information and\n\neducational materials to meet each of the following requirements\n\nconcerning perinatal mental health disorders:\n\n1. Licensed health care professionals providing prenatal care\n\nto women shall provide education to women and, if possible and with\n\npermission, to their families about perinatal mental health\n\ndisorders in accordance with the formal opinions and recommendations\n\nof the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists;\n\n2. All hospitals that provide labor and delivery services in\n\nthis state shall provide new mothers, prior to discharge following\n\nchildbirth, and, if possible, shall provide fathers and other family\n\nmembers with complete information about perinatal mental health\n\ndisorders, including its symptoms, methods of coping with the\n\nillness and treatment resources;\n\n3. Licensed health care professionals providing prenatal care\n\nat a prenatal visit shall invite each pregnant patient to complete a\n\nquestionnaire and shall review the completed questionnaire in\n\naccordance with the formal opinions and recommendations of the\n\nAmerican College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Assessment for\n\nperinatal mental health disorders shall be repeated when, in the\n\nprofessional judgment of the licensed health care professional, a\n\nreasonable possibility exists that the woman suffers from perinatal\n\nmental health disorders;\n\n4. Licensed health care professionals providing postnatal care\n\nto women shall invite each patient to complete a questionnaire and\n\nshall review the completed questionnaire in accordance with the\n\nformal opinions and recommendations of the American College of\n\nObstetricians and Gynecologists; and\n\n5. Licensed health care professionals providing pediatric care\n\nto an infant shall invite the infant's mother to complete a\n\nquestionnaire at any well-baby checkup at which the mother is\n\npresent prior to the infant's first birthday, and shall review the\n\ncompleted questionnaire in accordance with the formal opinions and\n\nrecommendations of the American College of Obstetricians and\n\nGynecologists, in order to ensure that the health and well-being of\n\nthe infant are not compromised by an undiagnosed perinatal mental\n\nhealth disorder in the mother. In order to share results from an\n\nassessment with the mother's primary licensed health care\n\nprofessional, consent should be obtained from the mother in\n\naccordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability\n\nAct of 1996, 29 U.S.C.A., Section 1181 et seq.
