Stat. tit. 63, § 63-1-260.2","heading":"Purposes of act – Duties of Board of Health and","body":"Department of Health.\n\nA. The purposes of this act are:\n\n1. To design and implement a multigenerational, statewide\n\nprogram of public awareness and knowledge about:\n\na. the causes of osteoporosis,\n\nb. personal risk factors,\n\nc. the value of prevention and early detection, and\n\nd. the options available for treatment;\n\n2. To facilitate and enhance knowledge and understanding of\n\nosteoporosis by disseminating educational materials, information\n\nabout research results, services, and strategies for prevention and\n\ntreatment to patients, health professionals, and the public;\n\n3. To utilize educational and training resources and services\n\nthat have been developed by organizations with appropriate expertise\n\nand knowledge of osteoporosis, and to use available technical\n\nassistance;\n\n4. To evaluate existing osteoporosis services in the community\n\nand assess the need for improving the quality and accessibility of\n\ncommunity-based services;\n\n5. To provide easy access to clear, complete, and accurate\n\nosteoporosis information and referral services;\n\n6. To educate and train service providers, health\n\nprofessionals, and physicians;\n\n7. To heighten awareness about the prevention, detection, and\n\ntreatment of osteoporosis among state and local health and human\n\nservice officials, health educators, and policymakers;\n\n8. To coordinate state programs and services to address the\n\nissue of osteoporosis;\n\n9. To promote the development of support groups for\n\nosteoporosis patients and their families and caregivers;\n\n10. To adequately fund these programs; and\n\n11. To provide lasting improvements in the delivery of\n\nosteoporosis health care that affect the quality of life of\n\nosteoporosis patients and that contain health care costs.\n\nB. 1. The State Board of Health, giving consideration to the\n\nrecommendations of the Advancement of Wellness Advisory Council\n\ncreated in Section 44 of this act, shall promulgate rules necessary\n\nto enact the provisions of the Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment\n\nEducation Act.\n\n2. The State Department of Health, as funds are available,\n\nshall:\n\na. provide sufficient staff to implement the Osteoporosis\n\nPrevention and Treatment Education Program,\n\nb. provide appropriate training for staff of the\n\nOsteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Education\n\nProgram,\n\nc. identify the appropriate entities to carry out the\n\nprogram,\n\nd. base the program on the most up-to-date scientific\n\ninformation and findings,\n\ne. work to improve the capacity of community-based\n\nservices available to osteoporosis patients,\n\nf. work with governmental offices, community and business\n\nleaders, community organizations, health care and\n\nhuman service providers, and national osteoporosis\n\norganizations to coordinate efforts and maximize state\n\nresources in the areas of prevention, education, and\n\ntreatment of osteoporosis, and\n\ng. identify and, when appropriate, replicate or use\n\nsuccessful osteoporosis programs and procure related\n\nmaterials and services from organizations with\n\nappropriate expertise and knowledge of osteoporosis.","path":["OK Code","Title 63"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os63.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"892c9ab6697f28b4e6ddbd2e38a17fddd2c095ac268d55719633006369502ca8","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-63-63-1-260.1","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-63-63-1-260.3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
