Stat. tit. 63, § 63-1-566","heading":"Exceptions to licensure requirement","body":"The following persons may engage in the practice of genetic\n\ncounseling, subject to the stated circumstances and limitations,\n\nwithout being licensed under the provisions of this act:\n\n1. Professionals licensed, certified or registered in this\n\nstate other than as a genetic counselor who engage in the competent\n\npractice of that occupation or profession without additional\n\nlicensure under this title. The individual may not use the title\n\n“genetic counselor” or any other title tending to indicate that the\n\nindividual is a genetic counselor unless licensed as such in this\n\nstate; provided, however, this provision shall not apply to\n\nphysicians licensed in this state who have appropriate training in\n\nmedical genetics;\n\n2. A student or intern from a recognized school, engaged in\n\nactivities constituting the practice of a regulated occupation or\n\nprofession; provided, however, such activities shall be a defined\n\npart of a supervised training program;\n\n3. An individual trained as a genetic counselor, who is\n\nreapplying for the American Board of Genetic Counseling\n\ncertification examination and gathering logbook cases under\n\nsupervision in an approved genetic counseling training site;\n\n4. An individual trained as a Ph.D. medical geneticist, who is\n\nreapplying for the American Board of Medical Genetics certification\n\nexamination and is gathering logbook cases under a supervisor\n\nidentified in the training program’s ABMG accreditation documents as\n\na member of the training faculty; and\n\n5.
