Stat. tit. 63, § 63-1-575","heading":"Short title - Courtney's Law – Information for","body":"chromosomal disorders.\n\nA. This section shall be known and may be cited as \"Courtney's\n\nLaw\".\n\nB. For purposes of this section, \"chromosomal disorder\" means:\n\n1. Trisomy 13, otherwise known as Patau syndrome;\n\n2. Trisomy 18, otherwise known as Edwards syndrome; or\n\n3. Trisomy 21, otherwise known as Down syndrome.\n\nC. Any health care facility, health care provider, or genetic\n\ncounselor who renders prenatal care, postnatal care, or genetic\n\ncounseling, upon receipt of a positive test result from a test for a\n\nchromosomal disorder, shall provide the expectant or new parent with\n\ninformation provided by the State Department of Health under\n\nsubsection D of this section if such information is made available\n\nby the Department for the specific disorder.\n\nD. The State Department of Health shall make available on its\n\nInternet website the following:\n\n1. To the extent such information is available, up-to-date,\n\nevidence-based written information about chromosomal disorders that\n\nhas been reviewed by medical experts and national advocacy\n\norganizations for people with intellectual and other developmental\n\ndisorders. The written information provided shall be compiled by\n\nthe Department from credible sources and shall include physical,\n\ndevelopmental, educational and psychosocial outcomes, life\n\nexpectancy, clinical course, and intellectual and functional\n\ndevelopment and treatment options; and\n\n2. Contact information for programs and support services\n\nincluding one or more hotlines specific to a chromosomal disorder,\n\nresource centers or clearinghouses, national and local\n\norganizations, and other education and support programs.\n\nE. To the extent practicable, information provided under this\n\nsection shall be culturally and linguistically appropriate for women\n\nreceiving a positive prenatal diagnosis or for the family of a child\n\nreceiving a postnatal diagnosis of a chromosomal disorder.\n\nF.
