On and after the effective date of this act, the State\n\nDepartment of Health shall cease licensing birthing centers. No new\n\nlicense shall be issued, and no current license shall be renewed\n\nupon expiration. Provided, however, this subsection shall not be\n\nconstrued to exempt a hospital that operates a birthing center from\n\nthe requirement to obtain a hospital license under Section 1-702 of\n\nthis title.\n\nB.
