On or before July 1, 2008, the State Commissioner of Health\n\nshall request information from one or more umbilical cord blood\n\nbanks concerning the establishment of a public cord blood collection\n\noperation within this state to collect, transport, process and store\n\ncord blood units from Oklahoma residents for therapeutic and\n\nresearch purposes. Any such request for information shall contain\n\nprovisions inquiring about the ability of the umbilical cord blood\n\nbank to:\n\n1. Establish and operate one or more collection sites within\n\nthe state to collect a targeted number of cord blood units;\n\n2. Implement collection procedures designed to collect cord\n\nblood units that reflect the state’s racial and ethnic diversity;\n\n3. Set up public cord blood collection operations not later\n\nthan six (6) months after execution of a contract with the state,\n\nprovided the umbilical cord blood bank is able to negotiate any\n\nnecessary contracts related to the collection sites within that time\n\nframe;\n\n4. Participate in the National Cord Blood Coordinating Center\n\nor similar national cord blood inventory center by listing cord\n\nblood units in a manner that assures maximum opportunity for use;\n\n5. Have a program that provides cord blood units for research\n\nand agree to provide cord blood units that are unsuitable for\n\ntherapeutic use to researchers located within the state at no\n\ncharge; and\n\n6. Maintain national accreditation by an accrediting\n\norganization recognized by the federal Health Resources and Services\n\nAdministration.\n\nB. On or before January 1, 2009, the Commissioner of Health\n\nshall submit, as and in the manner provided for by law, a summary of\n\nthe responses to the request for information, along with any\n\nrecommendations, to the Governor, the Speaker of the House of\n\nRepresentatives, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and the\n\nchairs of those committees of the Legislature with legislative\n\nresponsibility over matters relating to public health.","path":["OK Code","Title 63"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os63.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"b4ae35aa11262d3e2a80cf9a3dadd794fd8bc3fdb63c2d10abfa33a5dd4efe2f","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-63-63-2175","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-63-63-2200.10a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
