In the event a person who is deaf or hard-of-hearing is\n\narrested and taken into custody for any alleged violation of a\n\ncriminal law of this state or for civil contempt, a qualified legal\n\ninterpreter shall be obtained through any interpreter service agency\n\nproviding qualified legal interpreting services for the deaf and\n\nhard-of-hearing or with individuals who meet the qualifications for\n\na qualified legal interpreter in order to communicate to the person\n\nthat person’s legal rights and to interview and interrogate\n\nproperly. No statement taken from such deaf or hard-of-hearing\n\nperson before a qualified legal interpreter is present shall be\n\nadmissible in court. The individual who is deaf or hard-of-hearing\n\nshall determine which type of qualified legal interpreter best fits\n\nthe needs of the individual.\n\nB.
