A law enforcement officer shall make a diligent effort to\n\ndetermine whether any disabled person he finds is an epileptic or a\n\ndiabetic or suffers from some other type of illness that would cause\n\nthe condition. Whenever feasible, this effort shall be made before\n\nthe person is charged with a crime or taken to a place of detention.\n\nB. In seeking to determine whether a disabled person suffers\n\nfrom an illness, a law enforcement officer shall make a reasonable\n\nsearch for an identifying device and an identification card of the\n\ntype described in subsection B, Section 3 of this act, and examine\n\nthem for emergency information. The law enforcement officer may not\n\nsearch for an identifying device or an identification card in a\n\nmanner or to an extent that would appear to a reasonable person in\n\nthe circumstances to cause an unreasonable risk of worsening the\n\ndisabled person's condition.\n\nC. A law enforcement officer who finds a disabled person\n\nwithout an identifying device or identification card is not relieved\n\nof his duty to that person to make a diligent effort to ascertain\n\nthe existence of any illness causing the disabled condition.\n\nD. A cause of action against a law enforcement officer does not\n\narise from his making a reasonable search of the disabled person to\n\nlocate an identifying device or identification card, even though the\n\nperson is not wearing an identifying device or carrying an\n\nidentification card.\n\nE. A law enforcement officer who determines or has reason to\n\nbelieve that a disabled person is suffering from an illness causing\n\nhis condition shall promptly notify the person's physician, if\n\npracticable. If the officer is unable to ascertain the physician's\n\nidentity or to communicate with him, the officer shall make a\n\nreasonable effort to cause the disabled person to be transported\n\nimmediately to a medical practitioner or to a facility where medical\n\ntreatment is available.
