Stat. tit. 63, § 63-4201","heading":"Definitions","body":"In addition to the terms defined by the Oklahoma Vessel and\n\nMotor Registration Act, for the purposes of the Oklahoma Boating\n\nSafety Regulation Act:\n\n1. \"Buoy\" means an anchored marker for marking a position on\n\nthe water, or a hazard, shoal or mooring, or any other prohibitive\n\nactivity area;\n\n2. \"Capacity plate\" means a sign posted in view of the\n\noperator's station on a vessel which designates the maximum weight\n\ncapacity and horsepower restrictions of a vessel for safe operation;\n\n3. \"Diver's flag\" means a red flag not less than twenty (20)\n\ninches by twenty-four (24) inches with a four-inch white stripe\n\nrunning from one upper corner to a diagonal lower corner, and such\n\nflag is used to indicate a submerged diver;\n\n4. \"Emergency vessel\" means any law enforcement vessel which is\n\nlegally authorized to operate in the emergency mode;\n\n5. \"Law enforcement vessel\" means any vessel legally authorized\n\nto operate under the color of law;\n\n6. “Lienholder” means a person holding a security interest in a\n\nvessel, as shown on the vessel title;\n\n7. \"Manipulate\" means to guide, steer or otherwise control;\n\n8. \"Marine sewage\" means any substance, treated or untreated,\n\nthat contains any of the waste products of humans or animals or\n\nfoodstuffs;\n\n9. \"Marine toilet\" means any latrine, head, lavatory or toilet\n\nintended to receive marine sewage and which is located on or in any\n\nvessel;\n\n10. \"Operator\" means the person who operates, has actual\n\nphysical control, or has charge of the navigation or use of a\n\nvessel;\n\n11. \"Parasail\" means any device which, when airborne, is used\n\nor capable of being used for lifting or suspending a person who is\n\nbeing or will be towed by a vessel;\n\n12. “Passenger” means any person riding in or upon any vessel\n\nor being towed for recreation on water skis, an inner tube,\n\nkneeboard, parasail or any similar device;\n\n13. \"Personal flotation device\" means only a United States\n\nCoast Guard approved flotation device;\n\n14. \"Personal watercraft\" means a vessel which uses an inboard\n\nmotor powering a water jet pump as its primary source of motive\n\npower and which is designed to be operated by a person sitting,\n\nstanding or kneeling on the vessel, rather than the conventional\n\nmanner of sitting or standing inside the vessel, or a vessel which\n\nis similar in appearance and operation to a personal watercraft but\n\nwhich is powered by an outboard or propeller driven motor, or a\n\nvessel less than sixteen (16) feet in length which travels across\n\nthe water above or on a cushion of air provided by engines,\n\npropellers or other means of propulsion;\n\n15. \"Sanctioned event\" means any organized event on the waters\n\nof this state, including but not limited to regattas, motorboat or\n\nother boat races, marine parades, tournaments and exhibitions, which\n\nis approved and permitted by an authorizing agency;\n\n16. \"Under way\" means the movement of a vessel whether by\n\nmechanical or nonmechanical means which is other than incidental to\n\nthe force of wind, waves or current; and\n\n17. \"Wake\" means the track of waves left by a vessel or other\n\nobject moving through the water, and such waves are greater than the\n\nnatural waves in the immediate area of the vessel, or are cresting\n\nand showing white water, or may cause injury or damage to any person\n\nor property.","path":["OK Code","Title 63"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os63.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"46f59751dbf8ebcb7285584a19a372779f103c05bea3c3fc2503c4d7b687f64d","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-63-63-4200","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-63-63-4202"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
