The certification of death of any person whose death is\n\ninvestigated under Section 931 et seq. of this title shall be made\n\nby the Chief Medical Examiner or his or her designee upon a medical\n\nexaminer death certificate provided by the State Registrar of Vital\n\nStatistics. Such death certificates shall be valid only when signed\n\nby the Chief Medical Examiner or his or her designee. Copies of all\n\nsuch certificates shall be forwarded immediately upon receipt by the\n\nState Registrar of Vital Statistics to the Office of the Chief\n\nMedical Examiner. The final certification of death issued under\n\nthis section shall be signed by the Chief Medical Examiner or his or\n\nher designee immediately upon conclusion of the investigation and\n\ncompletion of the case.\n\nB. Any certification of death by an attending physician may be\n\nreferred by the State Registrar of Vital Statistics to the Chief\n\nMedical Examiner for investigation and the amending of the original\n\ncertificate of death by the filing of a medical examiner death\n\ncertificate by the Chief Medical Examiner or his or her designee\n\nwhen the death is determined by the Chief Medical Examiner to be one\n\nproperly requiring investigation under Section 938 of this title.\n\nC.
