The cost associated with signage related to the naming of\n\nhighways and bridges on the state highway system shall be paid by\n\nthe group sponsoring or requesting the sign. The provisions of this\n\nsection shall not apply to the naming of highways and bridges on the\n\nstate highway system designed to honor:\n\n1. Members of the United States Armed Forces who were killed\n\nwhile participating in contingency operations;\n\n2. Members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol fallen in the\n\nperformance of their duties;\n\n3. Peace officers certified pursuant to Section 3311 of Title\n\n70 of the Oklahoma Statutes fallen in the performance of their\n\nduties; and\n\n4. First responders as defined by Section 1-2506.1 of Title 63\n\nof the Oklahoma Statutes fallen in the performance of their duties.\n\nB. As used in this section, the term \"contingency operation\"\n\nmeans a military operation that:\n\n1. Is designated by the Secretary of Defense as an operation in\n\nwhich members of the armed forces are or may become involved in\n\nmilitary actions, operations or hostilities against an enemy of the\n\nUnited States or against an opposing military force; or\n\n2. Results in the call or order to, or retention on, active\n\nduty of members of the uniformed services under Section 688,\n\n12301(a), 12302, 12304, 12304a, 12305 or 12406 of Title 10 U.S.C.,\n\nChapter 15 of Title 10 U.S.C., Section 712 of Title 14 U.S.C., or\n\nany other provision of law during a war or during a national\n\nemergency declared by the President or Congress.\n\nC. The Department of Transportation shall promulgate rules\n\nestablishing a procedure to assess and collect the cost of the\n\nsigns. The assessment of cost shall include the cost of the initial\n\nerection of the sign as well as the potential replacement or\n\nreconstruction of the sign.
