Stat. tit. 70, § 70-1-116","heading":"Positions in school system - Definitions","body":"As used in this title:\n\n1. \"Teacher\" means any person who is employed to serve as\n\ndistrict superintendent, principal, supervisor, counselor,\n\nlibrarian, school nurse, athletic trainer, or classroom teacher or\n\nin any other instructional, supervisory or administrative capacity.\n\nThe person shall not be deemed qualified unless the person holds a\n\nvalid certificate issued by and in accordance with the rules of the\n\nState Board of Education or the rules of the State Board of Career\n\nand Technology Education, to perform the particular services for\n\nwhich the person is employed;\n\n2. \"Superintendent\" or \"superintendent of schools\" means the\n\nexecutive officer of the board of education and the administrative\n\nhead of the school system of a district maintaining an accredited\n\nschool, provided the person holds an administrator's certificate\n\nrecognized by the State Board of Education;\n\n3. \"Principal\" means any person other than a district\n\nsuperintendent of schools having supervisory or administrative\n\nauthority over any school or school building having two or more\n\nteachers. A teaching principal shall be a principal who devotes at\n\nleast one-half (1/2) the time school is in session to classroom\n\nteaching. Teaching principals shall be required to hold\n\nadministrative certificates;\n\n4. \"Teachers\" means, for purposes of complying with the State\n\nAid Law and other statutes, but not any other provision of law,\n\nwhich apportion money on the basis of teaching units or the number\n\nof teachers employed or qualified, all persons holding proper\n\ncertificates and connected in any capacity with the instruction of\n\npupils;\n\n5. \"Inductee\" means any certified teacher who is employed in a\n\nlocal school to serve as a classroom teacher under the guidance and\n\nassistance of a mentor teacher or teachers;\n\n6. \"Student teacher\" means any student who is enrolled in an\n\ninstitution of higher learning approved by the State Board of\n\nEducation for teacher training and who is jointly assigned by the\n\ninstitution of higher learning and a board of education of a school\n\ndistrict to perform practice teaching under the direction of a\n\nregularly employed and certified teacher. A student teacher, while\n\nserving an internship under the supervision of a certified teacher,\n\nshall be accorded the same protection of the laws as that accorded\n\nthe certified teacher and shall be eligible to receive compensation\n\nbeginning on the first day of the internship for up to one full\n\nschool year; provided, however, that such compensation shall not be\n\nconsidered compensation for purposes of teacher retirement or the\n\nminimum salary schedule;\n\n7. \"School nurse\" means a person employed full time by a board\n\nof education who is a registered nurse licensed by the Oklahoma\n\nState Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education and is\n\ncertified the same as a teacher by the State Board of Education.\n\nProvided, that any person who is employed as a full-time school\n\nnurse in any school district in Oklahoma who is not registered on\n\nJuly 2, 1971, may continue to serve in the same capacity; however,\n\nsuch person shall, under rules adopted by the State Board of\n\nEducation, attend classes in nursing and prepare to become\n\nregistered. A school nurse employed by a board of education shall\n\nbe accorded the same protection of laws and all other benefits as a\n\ncertified teacher;\n\n8. \"Athletic trainer\" means a person employed full time by a\n\nboard of education who is a Certified Athletic Trainer with current\n\ncertification from the Board of Certification of the National\n\nAthletic Trainers' Association and is also currently licensed to\n\npractice in the state in accordance with the State Board of Medical\n\nLicensure and Supervision. An athletic trainer employed by a board\n\nof education shall be accorded the same protection of laws and all\n\nother benefits as a certified teacher; and\n\n9. \"Support employee\" means an employee who provides those\nification of the National\n\nAthletic Trainers' Association and is also currently licensed to\n\npractice in the state in accordance with the State Board of Medical\n\nLicensure and Supervision.
