District boards of education may develop and issue a\n\ncertificate of distinction that is to be awarded to students,\n\nbeginning with students in the 2000-2001 high school graduating\n\nclass who have met or exceeded the following criteria by the end of\n\ntheir senior year in high school with at least a 3.25 grade point\n\naverage on a 4.0 scale:\n\n1. Earned four units each in English, mathematics, social\n\nstudies, and science;\n\n2. Earned two additional units in the area of technology, the\n\nhumanities, or the arts;\n\n3. Earned two units in a foreign language; and\n\n4. Achieved a proficient or advanced score on all end-of-\n\ninstruction tests as required pursuant to Section 1210.508 of this\n\ntitle, as those tests are implemented.\n\nB. For purposes of this section, applicable vocational-\n\ntechnical classes offered by comprehensive high school vocational-\n\ntechnical programs shall qualify for technology, science, and\n\nmathematics units. Students enrolled in the programs may use one\n\nunit of their six concentrated vocational-technical curriculum units\n\nfor one unit of mathematics required by this section and one unit of\n\ntheir six concentrated vocational-technical curriculum units for one\n\nunit of science required by this section. Advanced placement\n\nclasses in the subject areas listed in paragraphs 1, 2, and 3 of\n\nsubsection A of this section may be substituted on a course-by-\n\ncourse basis to satisfy the academic units required for a\n\ncertificate of distinction.\n\nC.
