Stat. tit. 70, § 70-11-103.6v3","heading":"State Board of Education - Adoption of subject","body":"matter standards - Option for high school graduation - Adoption and\n\napproval of promotional system.\n\nA. 1. The State Board of Education shall adopt subject matter\n\nstandards for instruction of students in the public schools of this\n\nstate that are necessary to ensure there is attainment of desired\n\nlevels of competencies in a variety of areas to include language,\n\nmathematics, science, social studies, communication, and health and\n\nphysical education.\n\n2. School districts shall develop and implement curriculum,\n\ncourses and instruction in order to ensure that students meet the\n\nskills and competencies as set forth in this section and in the\n\nsubject matter standards adopted by the State Board of Education.\n\n3. All students shall gain literacy at the elementary and\n\nsecondary levels. Students shall develop skills in reading,\n\nwriting, speaking, computing, and critical thinking. For purposes\n\nof this section, critical thinking means a manner of analytical\n\nthinking which is logical and uses linear factual analysis to reach\n\na conclusion. They shall learn about cultures and environments -\n\ntheir own and those of others with whom they share the earth. All\n\nstudents shall receive the instruction needed to lead healthy and\n\nphysically active lifestyles. Students, therefore, shall study\n\nsocial studies, literature, languages, the arts, health,\n\nmathematics, and science. Such curricula shall provide for the\n\nteaching of a hands-on career exploration program in cooperation\n\nwith technology center schools.\n\n4. The subject matter standards shall be designed to teach the\n\ncompetencies for which students shall be tested as provided in\n\nSection 1210.508 of this title and shall be designed to prepare all\n\nstudents for active citizenship, employment, and/or successful\n\ncompletion of postsecondary education without the need for remedial\n\ncoursework at the postsecondary level.\n\n5. The subject matter standards shall be designed with rigor as\n\ndefined in paragraph 6 of subsection F of this section.\n\n6. The subject matter standards for English Language Arts shall\n\ngive Classic Literature and nonfiction literature equal\n\nconsideration to other literature. In addition, emphasis shall be\n\ngiven to the study of complete works of literature.\n\n7. At a minimum, the subject matter standards for mathematics\n\nshall require mastery of the standard algorithms in mathematics,\n\nwhich is the most logical, efficient way of solving a problem that\n\nconsistently works, and for students to attain fluency in Euclidian\n\ngeometry.\n\n8. The subject matter standards for history, social studies,\n\nand United States Government shall include the content of the United\n\nStates naturalization test, with an emphasis on the specific content\n\nof the test and the ideas and concepts it references. The United\n\nStates naturalization test shall be made available in physical and\n\nelectronic online formats as an optional assessment tool for\n\nteachers.\n\n9. The subject matter standards for United States Government\n\nshall include an emphasis on civics. For the purposes of this\n\nsection, \"civics\" means the study of the rights and duties of\n\nOklahoma and United States citizens and of how those governments\n\nwork.\n\n10. The subject matter standards for health and physical\n\neducation shall include but not be limited to the domains of\n\nphysical, emotional, social, and intellectual health. Health\n\nliteracy shall include the ability to obtain, process, and\n\nunderstand basic health information and services needed to make\n\nappropriate health decisions. Health shall also include the\n\nimportance of proper nutrition and exercise, mental health and\n\nwellness, substance abuse, coping skills for understanding and\n\nmanaging trauma, establishing and maintaining positive\n\nrelationships, and responsible decision making. Physical literacy\n\nshall include the ability to move with competence and confidence in\nices needed to make\n\nappropriate health decisions. Health shall also include the\n\nimportance of proper nutrition and exercise, mental health and\n\nwellness, substance abuse, coping skills for understanding and\n\nmanaging trauma, establishing and maintaining positive\n\nrelationships, and responsible decision making. Physical literacy\n\nshall include the ability to move with competence and confidence in\n\na wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments that\n\nbenefit the healthy development of the whole person.\n\nB. Subject to the provisions of subsection C or subsection D of\n\nthis section, in order to graduate from a public high school\n\naccredited by the State Board of Education with a standard diploma,\n\nstudents enrolled in grades eight through twelve in the 2024-2025\n\nschool year shall complete the following college preparatory/work\n\nready curriculum units or sets of competencies at the secondary\n\nlevel:\n\n1. Four units or sets of competencies of English to include\n\nGrammar, Composition, Literature, or any English course approved for\n\ncollege admission requirements;\n\n2. Three units or sets of competencies of mathematics, limited\n\nto Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Math Analysis,\n\nCalculus, Advanced Placement Statistics, or any mathematics course\n\nwith content and/or rigor above Algebra I and approved for college\n\nadmission requirements;\n\n3. Three units or sets of competencies of laboratory science\n\napproved for college admission requirements including one unit or\n\nset of competencies of life science meeting the standards for\n\nBiology I; one unit or set of competencies of physical science\n\nmeeting the standards for Physical Science, Chemistry, or Physics;\n\nand one unit or set of competencies from the domains of physical\n\nscience, life science, or earth and space science such that the\n\ncontent and rigor is above Biology I or Physical Science;\n\n4. Three units or sets of competencies of history and\n\ncitizenship skills including one unit of American History, 1/2 unit\n\nof Oklahoma History, 1/2 unit of United States Government, and one\n\nunit from the subjects of History, Government, Geography, Economics,\n\nCivics, or non-Western culture and approved for college admission\n\nrequirements;\n\n5. Two units or sets of competencies of the same world or non-\n\nEnglish language or two units of computer technology approved for\n\ncollege admission requirements, whether taught at a high school or a\n\ntechnology center school including computer programming, hardware,\n\nand business computer applications, such as word processing,\n\ndatabases, spreadsheets, and graphics, excluding keyboarding or\n\ntyping courses;\n\n6. One additional unit or set of competencies selected from\n\nparagraphs 1 through 5 of this subsection or career and technology\n\neducation courses, concurrently enrolled courses, advanced placement\n\ncourses, or International Baccalaureate courses approved for college\n\nadmission requirements; and\n\n7. One unit or set of competencies of fine arts, such as music,\n\nart, or drama, or one unit or set of competencies of speech.\n\nC. In lieu of the requirements of subsection B or subsection D\n\nof this section which requires a college preparatory/work ready\n\ncurriculum, a student enrolled in grades eight through twelve in the\n\n2024-2025 school year may enroll in the core curriculum as provided\n\nin this subsection upon written approval of the parent or legal\n\nguardian of the student. For students under the age of eighteen\nh.\n\nC. In lieu of the requirements of subsection B or subsection D\n\nof this section which requires a college preparatory/work ready\n\ncurriculum, a student enrolled in grades eight through twelve in the\n\n2024-2025 school year may enroll in the core curriculum as provided\n\nin this subsection upon written approval of the parent or legal\n\nguardian of the student. For students under the age of eighteen\n\n(18) school districts shall require a parent or legal guardian of\n\nthe student to meet with a designee of the school prior to\n\nenrollment in the core curriculum. The State Department of\n\nEducation shall develop and distribute to school districts a form\n\nsuitable for this purpose, which shall include information on the\n\nbenefits to students of completing the college preparatory/work\n\nready curriculum as provided for in subsection B of this section.\n\nIn order to graduate from a public high school accredited by the\n\nState Board of Education with a standard diploma, students enrolled\n\nin grades eight through twelve in the 2024-2025 school year shall\n\ncomplete the following core curriculum units or sets of competencies\n\nat the secondary level:\n\n1. Language Arts – 4 units or sets of competencies to consist\n\nof 1 unit or set of competencies of grammar and composition, and 3\n\nunits or sets of competencies which may include, but are not limited\n\nto, the following courses:\n\na. American Literature,\n\nb. English Literature,\n\nc. World Literature,\n\nd. Advanced English Courses, or\n\ne. other English courses with content and/or rigor equal\n\nto or above grammar and composition;\n\n2. Mathematics – 3 units or sets of competencies to consist of\n\n1 unit or set of competencies of Algebra I or Algebra I taught in a\n\ncontextual methodology, and 2 units or sets of competencies which\n\nmay include, but are not limited to, the following courses:\n\na. Algebra II,\n\nb. Geometry or Geometry taught in a contextual\n\nmethodology,\n\nc. Trigonometry,\n\nd. Math Analysis or Precalculus,\n\ne. Calculus,\n\nf. Statistics and/or Probability,\n\ng. Computer Science or acceptance and successful\n\ncompletion of one (1) year of a full-time, three-hour\n\ncareer and technology program leading to an industry\n\ncredential/certificate or college credit. The State\n\nBoard of Career and Technology Education shall\n\npromulgate rules to define the provisions of this\n\nsection related to the accepted industry-valued\n\ncredentials which are industry-endorsed or industry-\n\naligned. The list of accepted industry-valued\n\ncredentials shall be reviewed annually and updated at\n\nleast every three (3) years by the Board,\n\nh. (1) contextual mathematics courses which enhance\n\ntechnology preparation, or\n\n(2) a science, technology, engineering, and math\n\n(STEM) block course meeting the requirements for\n\ncourse competencies listed in paragraph 2 of\n\nsubsection B of this section, whether taught at\n\na:\n\n(a) comprehensive high school, or\nshall be reviewed annually and updated at\n\nleast every three (3) years by the Board,\n\nh. (1) contextual mathematics courses which enhance\n\ntechnology preparation, or\n\n(2) a science, technology, engineering, and math\n\n(STEM) block course meeting the requirements for\n\ncourse competencies listed in paragraph 2 of\n\nsubsection B of this section, whether taught at\n\na:\n\n(a) comprehensive high school, or\n\n(b) technology center school when taken in the\n\ntenth, eleventh, or twelfth grade, taught by\n\na certified teacher, and approved by the\n\nState Board of Education and the independent\n\ndistrict board of education,\n\ni. mathematics courses taught at a technology center\n\nschool by a teacher certified in the secondary subject\n\narea when taken in the tenth, eleventh, or twelfth\n\ngrade upon approval of the State Board of Education\n\nand the independent district board of education, or\n\nj. any other mathematics course with content and/or rigor\n\nequal to or above Algebra I;\n\n3. Science – 3 units or sets of competencies to consist of 1\n\nunit or set of competencies of Biology I or Biology I taught in a\n\ncontextual methodology, and 2 units or sets of competencies in the\n\nareas of life, physical, or earth science or technology which may\n\ninclude, but are not limited to, the following courses:\n\na. Chemistry I,\n\nb. Physics,\n\nc. Biology II,\n\nd. Chemistry II,\n\ne. Physical Science,\n\nf. Earth Science,\n\ng. Botany,\n\nh. Zoology,\n\ni. Physiology,\n\nj. Astronomy,\n\nk. Applied Biology/Chemistry,\n\nl. Applied Physics,\n\nm. Principles of Technology,\n\nn. qualified agricultural education courses,\n\no. (1) contextual science courses which enhance\n\ntechnology preparation, or\n\n(2) a science, technology, engineering, and math\n\n(STEM) block course meeting the requirements for\n\ncourse competencies listed in paragraph 3 of\n\nsubsection B of this section, whether taught at\n\na:\n\n(a) comprehensive high school, or\n\n(b) technology center school when taken in the\n\ntenth, eleventh, or twelfth grade, taught by\n\na certified teacher, and approved by the\n\nState Board of Education and the independent\n\ndistrict board of education,\n\np. science courses taught at a technology center school\n\nby a teacher certified in the secondary subject area\n\nwhen taken in the tenth, eleventh, or twelfth grade\n\nupon approval of the State Board of Education and the\n\nindependent district board of education, or\n\nq. other science courses with content and/or rigor equal\n\nto or above Biology I;\n\n4. Social Studies – 3 units or sets of competencies to consist\n\nof 1 unit or set of competencies of United States History, 1/2 to 1\n\nunit or set of competencies of United States Government, 1/2 unit or\n\nset of competencies of Oklahoma History, and 1/2 to 1 unit or set of\n\ncompetencies which may include, but are not limited to, the\n\nfollowing courses:\n\na. World History,\n\nb. Geography,\n\nc. Economics,\n\nd. Anthropology, or\n\ne. other social studies courses with content and/or rigor\n\nequal to or above United States History, United States\n\nGovernment, and Oklahoma History;\n\n5. Arts – 1 unit or set of competencies which may include, but\n\nis not limited to, courses in Visual Arts and General Music; and\n\n6. Computer Education or World Language - 1 unit or set of\n\ncompetencies of computer technology, whether taught at a high school\n\nor a technology center school including computer programming,\n\nhardware, and business computer applications, such as word\n\nprocessing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphics, excluding\n\nkeyboarding or typing courses, or 1 unit or set of competencies of\n\nworld or non-English language.\n\nD. Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, students whose\n\nparent or legal guardian approve modification of the existing\n\ngraduation track as outlined in subsections B and C of this section,\n\nsubject to school approval, may complete a minimum of twenty-three\ning or typing courses, or 1 unit or set of competencies of\n\nworld or non-English language.\n\nD. Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, students whose\n\nparent or legal guardian approve modification of the existing\n\ngraduation track as outlined in subsections B and C of this section,\n\nsubject to school approval, may complete a minimum of twenty-three\n\n(23) curriculum units or sets of competencies at the secondary level\n\nas listed below; and students entering the eighth grade in the 2025-\n\n2026 school year, in order to graduate from a public high school\n\naccredited by the State Board of Education with a standard diploma,\n\nstudents shall complete a minimum of the following twenty-three (23)\n\ncurriculum units or sets of competencies at the secondary level:\n\n1. Four units or sets of competencies of English to include\n\nGrammar, Composition, Literature, or any English course;\n\n2. Four units or sets of competencies of mathematics, two of\n\nwhich shall be Algebra I and either Algebra II or Geometry. The\n\nother two units may include Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Math\n\nAnalysis, Calculus, Statistics, Math of Finance, Computer Science,\n\ncollege courses approved for dual credit, an approved full-time\n\npostsecondary career and technology program, or locally approved\n\nmath based application course, or any mathematics course with\n\ncontent and/or rigor above Algebra I;\n\n3. Three units or sets of competencies of laboratory science\n\napproved for college admission requirements including one unit or\n\nset of competencies of life science meeting the standards for\n\nBiology I; one unit or set of competencies of physical science\n\nmeeting the standards for Physical Science, Chemistry, or Physics;\n\nand one unit or set of competencies from the domains of physical\n\nscience, life science, or earth and space science, or approved full-\n\ntime postsecondary career and technology program or locally approved\n\nscience based application course, or any science course with content\n\nand/or rigor above Biology I or Physical Science;\n\n4. Three units or sets of competencies of history and\n\ncitizenship skills including one unit of American History, 1/2 unit\n\nof Oklahoma History, 1/2 unit of United States Government, and one\n\nunit from the subjects of History, Government, Geography, Economics,\n\nCivics, or non-Western culture;\n\n5. Six pathway units or sets of competencies approved at the\n\ndiscretion of the school district board of education which align\n\nwith each student's Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) and\n\nmay include, but are not limited to, any additional units or sets of\n\ncompetencies as provided in paragraphs 1 through 4 of this\n\nsubsection, world or non-English language, computer technology,\n\nJunior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC), internship or\n\napprenticeship programs, career and technology education courses,\n\nconcurrently enrolled courses, advanced placement courses,\n\nInternational Baccalaureate courses approved for college admission\n\nrequirements, music, art, drama, speech, dance, media arts, or other\n\napproved courses; and\n\n6. Three units or sets of competencies of elective courses\n\napproved by the school district board of education.\n\nE. A school district shall determine the specific description\n\nof the locally approved math and science based application courses\n\nallowed pursuant to paragraphs 2 and 3 of subsection D of this\n\nsection. Formal notification with the specific course description\n\nshall be provided to the State Department of Education prior to July\n\n1 of each school year. The notification shall include what courses\n\nwill be coded as locally approved math and science based application\n\ncourses for the ensuing school year.\n\nF. 1. In addition to the curriculum requirements of subsection\n\nB, C, or D of this section, in order to graduate from a public high\n\nschool accredited by the State Board of Education students shall\nf Education prior to July\n\n1 of each school year. The notification shall include what courses\n\nwill be coded as locally approved math and science based application\n\ncourses for the ensuing school year.\n\nF. 1. In addition to the curriculum requirements of subsection\n\nB, C, or D of this section, in order to graduate from a public high\n\nschool accredited by the State Board of Education students shall\n\ncomplete the requirements for a personal financial literacy passport\n\nas set forth in the Passport to Financial Literacy Act and any\n\nadditional course requirements or recommended elective courses as\n\nmay be established by the State Board of Education and the district\n\nschool board. School districts shall strongly encourage students to\n\ncomplete two units or sets of competencies of world languages and\n\ntwo units or sets of competencies of physical and health education.\n\n2. No student shall receive credit for high school graduation\n\nmore than once for completion of the same unit or set of\n\ncompetencies to satisfy the curriculum requirements of this section.\n\n3. A school district shall not be required to offer every\n\ncourse listed in subsections B, C, and D of this section but shall\n\noffer sufficient courses to allow a student to meet the graduation\n\nrequirements during the secondary grade years of the student.\n\nG. For purposes of this section:\n\n1. \"Contextual methodology\" means academic content and skills\n\ntaught by utilizing real-world problems and projects in a way that\n\nhelps students understand the application of that knowledge;\n\n2. \"Locally approved\" means approved by the local school\n\ndistrict board of education;\n\n3. \"Math based application course\" means a course that teaches\n\nmath content within a real-world application;\n\n4. \"Pathway unit\" means a course taken by a high school student\n\nthat is aligned with the student's current Individualized Career and\n\nAcademic Plan (ICAP);\n\n5. \"Qualified agricultural education courses\" means courses\n\nthat have been determined by the State Board of Education to offer\n\nthe sets of competencies for one or more science content areas and\n\nwhich correspond to academic science courses. Qualified\n\nagricultural education courses shall include, but are not limited\n\nto, horticulture, plant and soil science, natural resources and\n\nenvironmental science, and animal science. The courses shall be\n\ntaught by teachers certified in agricultural education and comply\n\nwith all rules of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology\n\nEducation;\n\n6. \"Rigor\" means a level of difficulty that is thorough,\n\nexhaustive and accurate and is appropriate for the grade level;\n\n7. \"Science based application course\" means a course that\n\nteaches science content within a real-world application;\n\n8. \"Sets of competencies\" means instruction in those skills and\n\ncompetencies that are specified in the subject matter standards\n\nadopted by the State Board of Education and other skills and\n\ncompetencies adopted by the Board, without regard to specified\n\ninstructional time; and\n\n9. \"Unit\" means a Carnegie Unit as defined by the North Central\n\nAssociation's Commission on Schools.\n\nH. 1. The State Board of Education, State Board of Career and\n\nTechnology Education, and State Regents for Higher Education shall\n\nadopt a joint plan and electronically submit it to the Speaker of\n\nthe Oklahoma House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore\n\nof the Oklahoma State Senate by January 1, 2025, to ensure that\n\nrigor is maintained in the content, teaching methodology, level of\n\nexpectations for student achievement, and application of learning in\n\nall the courses taught to meet the graduation requirements specified\n\nin subsection D of this section.\n\n2. The State Board of Education shall allow as much flexibility\n\nat the district level as is possible without diminishing the rigor\n\nor undermining the intent of providing these courses. To accomplish\nng methodology, level of\n\nexpectations for student achievement, and application of learning in\n\nall the courses taught to meet the graduation requirements specified\n\nin subsection D of this section.\n\n2. The State Board of Education shall allow as much flexibility\n\nat the district level as is possible without diminishing the rigor\n\nor undermining the intent of providing these courses. To accomplish\n\nthis purpose, the State Department of Education shall work with\n\nschool districts in reviewing and approving courses taught by\n\ndistricts that are not specifically listed in subsections B, C, and\n\nD of this section. Options may include, but shall not be limited\n\nto, courses taken by concurrent enrollment, advanced placement, or\n\ncorrespondence, or courses bearing different titles.\n\n3. Technology center school districts may offer programs\n\ndesigned in cooperation with institutions of higher education.\n\nStudents in the tenth grade may be allowed to attend these programs\n\nfor up to one-half (1/2) of a school day and credit for the units or\n\nsets of competencies required in paragraphs 2, 3, and 6 of\n\nsubsection B or C and paragraphs 2 and 3 of subsection D of this\n\nsection shall be given if the courses are taught by a teacher\n\ncertified in the secondary subject area; provided, credit for units\n\nor sets of competencies pursuant to subsection B of this section\n\nshall be approved for college admission requirements.\n\n4. If a student enrolls in a concurrent course, the school\n\ndistrict shall not be responsible for any costs incurred for that\n\ncourse, unless the school district does not offer enough course\n\nselection during the student's secondary grade years to allow the\n\nstudent to receive the courses needed to meet the graduation\n\nrequirements of this section. If the school district does not offer\n\nthe necessary course selection during the student's secondary grade\n\nyears, it shall be responsible for the cost of resident tuition at\n\nan institution in The Oklahoma State System of Higher Education,\n\nfees, and books for the concurrent enrollment course, and providing\n\nfor transportation to and from the institution to the school site.\n\nIt is the intent of the Legislature that for students enrolled\n\nin a concurrent enrollment course which is paid for by the school\n\ndistrict pursuant to this paragraph, the institution charge only the\n\nsupplementary and special service fees that are directly related to\n\nthe concurrent enrollment course and enrollment procedures for that\n\nstudent. It is further the intent of the Legislature that fees for\n\nstudent activities and student service facilities including the\n\nstudent health care and cultural and recreational service fees not\n\nbe charged to such students.\n\n5. Credit for the units or sets of competencies required in\n\nsubsection B, C, or D of this section shall be given when such units\n\nor sets of competencies are taken prior to ninth grade if the\n\nteachers are certified or authorized to teach the subjects for high\n\nschool credit and the required rigor is maintained.\n\n6. The units or sets of competencies in mathematics required in\n\nsubsection B, C, or D of this section may be completed at any time\n\nduring the eighth through twelfth grades. If a student completes\n\nany required courses or sets of competencies in mathematics prior to\n\neighth grade, the student may take any other mathematics courses or\n\nsets of competencies to fulfill the requirement to complete the\n\nunits or sets of competencies in grades eight through twelve after\n\nthe student has satisfied the requirements of subsection B, C, or D\n\nof this section.\n\n7. All units or sets of competencies required for graduation\n\nmay be taken in any sequence recommended by the school district.\n\nI. As a condition of receiving accreditation from the State\n\nBoard of Education, all students in grades nine through twelve shall\n\nenroll in a minimum of six periods, or the equivalent in block\nent has satisfied the requirements of subsection B, C, or D\n\nof this section.\n\n7. All units or sets of competencies required for graduation\n\nmay be taken in any sequence recommended by the school district.\n\nI. As a condition of receiving accreditation from the State\n\nBoard of Education, all students in grades nine through twelve shall\n\nenroll in a minimum of six periods, or the equivalent in block\n\nscheduling or other scheduling structure that allows for instruction\n\nin sets of competencies, of rigorous academic and/or rigorous\n\nvocational courses each day, which may include arts, vocal and\n\ninstrumental music, speech classes, and physical education classes.\n\nJ. 1. Academic and vocational-technical courses designed to\n\noffer sets of competencies integrated or embedded within the course\n\nthat provide for the teaching and learning of the appropriate skills\n\nand knowledge in the subject matter standards, as adopted by the\n\nState Board of Education, may upon approval of the Board, in\n\nconsultation with the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology\n\nEducation if the courses are offered at a technology center school\n\ndistrict, be counted for academic credit and toward meeting the\n\ngraduation requirements of this section.\n\n2. Internet-based courses offered by a technology center school\n\nthat are taught by a certified teacher and provide for the teaching\n\nand learning of the appropriate skills and knowledge in the subject\n\nmatter standards may, upon approval of the State Board of Education\n\nand the independent district board of education, be counted for\n\nacademic credit and toward meeting the graduation requirements of\n\nthis section.\n\n3. Internet-based courses or vocational-technical courses\n\nutilizing integrated or embedded skills for which no subject matter\n\nstandards have been adopted by the State Board of Education may be\n\napproved by the Board, in consultation with the Oklahoma Department\n\nof Career and Technology Education if the courses are offered by a\n\ntechnology center school district, if such courses incorporate\n\nstandards of nationally recognized professional organizations and\n\nare taught by certified teachers.\n\n4. Courses offered by a supplemental education organization\n\nthat is accredited by a national accrediting body and that are\n\ntaught by a certified teacher and provide for the teaching and\n\nlearning of the appropriate skills and knowledge in the subject\n\nmatter standards may, upon approval of the State Board of Education\n\nand the school district board of education, be counted for academic\n\ncredit and toward meeting the graduation requirements of this\n\nsection.\n\nK. The State Board of Education shall provide an option for\n\nhigh school graduation based upon attainment of the desired levels\n\nof competencies as required in tests pursuant to the provisions of\n\nSection 1210.508 of this title. Such option shall be in lieu of the\n\namount of course credits earned.\n\nL. The State Board of Education shall prescribe, adopt and\n\napprove a promotion system based on the attainment by students of\n\nspecified levels of competencies in each area of the core\n\ncurriculum.\n\nM. Children who have individualized education programs pursuant\n\nto the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and who\n\nsatisfy the graduation requirements through the individualized\n\neducation program for that student shall be awarded a standard\n\ndiploma.\n\nN. Any student who completes the curriculum requirements of the\n\nInternational Baccalaureate Diploma Program shall be awarded a\n\nstandard diploma.\n\nO. Any student who successfully completes an advanced\n\nmathematics or science course offered pursuant to Section 1210.404\n\nof this title shall be granted academic credit toward meeting the\n\ngraduation requirements pursuant to paragraph 2 or 3, as\n\nappropriate, of subsection B, C, or D of this section.\n\nP. For purposes of this section, the courses approved for\nshall be awarded a\n\nstandard diploma.\n\nO. Any student who successfully completes an advanced\n\nmathematics or science course offered pursuant to Section 1210.404\n\nof this title shall be granted academic credit toward meeting the\n\ngraduation requirements pursuant to paragraph 2 or 3, as\n\nappropriate, of subsection B, C, or D of this section.\n\nP. For purposes of this section, the courses approved for\n\ncollege admission requirements shall be courses which are approved\n\nby the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for admission to\n\nan institution within The Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.\n\nQ. Students who have been denied a standard diploma by the\n\nschool district in which the student is or was enrolled for failing\n\nto meet the requirements of this section may re-enroll in the school\n\ndistrict that denied the student a standard diploma following the\n\ndenial of a standard diploma. The student shall be provided\n\nremediation or intervention and the opportunity to complete the\n\ncurriculum units or sets of competencies required by this section to\n\nobtain a standard diploma.
