This act shall be known and may be cited as the “Oklahoma\n\nKids Fitness Challenge Act”.\n\nB. The State Board of Education shall establish a physical\n\nactivity program for public school students in the fifth grade,\n\nwhich each school district may elect to implement for the fifth-\n\ngrade students in that district. The program shall incorporate the\n\nfitness challenges adopted by the Presidents Council on Physical\n\nFitness and Sports and may include the following activities:\n\n1. Twenty-five sit-ups in two (2) minutes a minimum of three\n\ntimes per week every week during the school year; or\n\n2. Walk a minimum of twenty-five (25) miles per week every week\n\nduring the school year.\n\nC. The physical activity program established by the State Board\n\nof Education shall also incorporate a “Walk Across Oklahoma”\n\nactivity plan for school districts. The plan shall establish routes\n\nthat challenge students to complete virtual walks across the state\n\nand at the same time learn facts, geography, and history about\n\nvarious locations in the state. The Board shall work with the\n\nOklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department and the Oklahoma\n\nHistorical Society in developing the activity plan. The Board shall\n\nprovide to school districts:\n\n1. Information about public and private resources and options\n\navailable to school districts to provide pedometers or step-counters\n\nto students;\n\n2. Resources for teachers, that shall be available on the State\n\nDepartment of Education web site, which includes, but is not limited\n\nto:\n\na. information about using a pedometer or step-counters,\n\nb. materials to incorporate the use of pedometers or\n\nstep-counters into course curriculum,\n\nc. materials and sources of information relating to\n\nfacts, geography, and history of the state,\n\nd. information about recreational areas in the state, and\n\ne. recreation and health education information; and\n\n3. Ideas of ways to involve parents and guardians in the\n\nactivity.\n\nD.
