Stat. tit. 70, § 70-1210.199","heading":"Short title - Dustin Rhodes and Lindsay Steed CPR","body":"Training Act.\n\nA. This act shall be known and may be cited as the \"Dustin\n\nRhodes and Lindsay Steed CPR Training Act\".\n\nB. Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, all students\n\nenrolled in the public schools of this state shall receive\n\ninstruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and awareness of the\n\npurpose of an automated external defibrillator, in accordance with\n\nsubsection C of this section, at least once between ninth grade and\n\ngraduation from high school. The instruction may be provided as a\n\npart of any course. A school administrator may waive the curriculum\n\nrequirement required by this subsection for an eligible student who\n\nhas a disability. A student shall not be required to meet the\n\nrequirement of this subsection if a parent or guardian of the\n\nstudent objects in writing. All students enrolled in a virtual\n\ncharter school in grades nine through twelve shall not be subject to\n\nthe requirements of this section. All students enrolled in physical\n\neducation classes in grades nine through twelve may receive\n\ninstruction in the techniques of the Heimlich maneuver.\n\nC. The State Board of Education shall establish a procedure for\n\nmonitoring the requirements set forth in subsection B of this\n\nsection. Instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation shall\n\nincorporate psychomotor skills training and shall be based upon an\n\ninstructional program which is nationally recognized and is based\n\nupon the most current national evidence-based Emergency\n\nCardiovascular Care guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and\n\nthe use of an automated external defibrillator.\n\nD. Each public school district board of education shall ensure\n\nthat a minimum of one certified teacher and one noncertified staff\n\nmember at each school site receives training in cardiopulmonary\n\nresuscitation and the Heimlich maneuver each year.\n\nE. School districts may use state funds allocated to the school\n\ndistrict for professional development to pay for or to reimburse\n\nteachers and support personnel for training in the administration of\n\nfirst aid and techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the\n\nHeimlich maneuver.\n\nF. Nothing in this section shall be construed to impose\n\nliability on any school district or school district employee for\n\ninjury or death of any student, teacher, or other person resulting\n\nfrom any cardiopulmonary or choking incident or to absolve any\n\nschool district or school employee of liability that might otherwise\n\nexist under The Governmental Tort Claims Act.\n\nG. For purposes of this section, \"psychomotor skills\" means the\n\nuse of hands-on practice to support cognitive learning.\n\nH. A school district may use emergency medical technicians,\n\nparamedics, police officers, firefighters, teachers, other school\n\nemployees or other similarly qualified individuals or organizations\n\nto provide the instruction prescribed by this section. Two or more\n\nschool districts may enter into an interlocal or multidistrict\n\ncooperative agreement for the purpose of jointly and comparatively\n\nfulfilling the requirements of this section. Instruction provided\n\npursuant to this section is not required to result in certification\n\nin cardiopulmonary resuscitation. If instruction is intended to\n\nresult in certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the course\n\ninstructor shall be authorized by an instructional program which is\n\nnationally recognized and is based upon the most current national\n\nevidence-based Emergency Cardiovascular Care guidelines for\n\ncardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external\n\ndefibrillator or a similar nationally recognized association to\n\nprovide the instruction.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"3b7b8b46202c4cf0cdae525d40d68d25520027848b500cb0907341b719a36fb6","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-1210.196.9","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-1210.200"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
