A secondary school to be known as the Oklahoma School of\n\nScience and Mathematics is hereby established to be governed by a\n\nboard of trustees as created in this section.\n\nB. The Board of Trustees of the Oklahoma School of Science and\n\nMathematics shall consist of twenty-five (25) members as follows:\n\n1. Six ex officio nonvoting members as follows:\n\na. The Chair of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher\n\nEducation or a designee;\n\nb. The Chancellor for Higher Education or a designee;\n\nc. The Superintendent of Public Instruction or a\n\ndesignee;\n\nd. The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of\n\nOklahoma State University;\n\ne. The Dean of the College of Arts and Science of the\n\nUniversity of Oklahoma; and\n\nf. The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of the\n\nUniversity of Tulsa.\n\n2. Seven members appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the\n\nSenate as follows:\n\na. A member of the Senate;\n\nb. A superintendent of a public school district; and\n\nc. Five persons, two of whom are either a scientist or a\n\nmathematician and three of whom hold a graduate degree\n\nand practice a profession for which a graduate degree\n\nis required.\n\n3. Seven members appointed by the Speaker of the House of\n\nRepresentatives as follows:\n\na. A member of the House of Representatives;\n\nb. A principal of a public secondary school; and\n\nc. Five members who are either a scientist or a\n\nmathematician or hold a graduate degree and are\n\ncurrently employed in an occupation related to\n\nmathematics or one of the sciences.\n\n4. Five members appointed by the Governor. Four of the members\n\nappointed by the Governor shall be business or industrial leaders.\n\nOne member appointed by the Governor shall be a principal of a\n\nprivate secondary school in this state. One of the members shall be\n\ndesignated as Chair of the Board of Trustees by the Governor.\n\nFor purposes of this subsection:\n\na. \"scientist\" means any person who has a college degree\n\nin one of the sciences or is currently employed in an\n\noccupation related to one of the sciences; and\n\nb. \"mathematician\" means any person who has a college\n\ndegree in mathematics or is currently employed in an\n\noccupation related to mathematics.\n\nC. 1. The terms of office of the members appointed by the\n\nPresident Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of\n\nRepresentatives shall coincide with the terms of the appointing\n\nauthority.\n\n2. The terms of office of the initial members appointed by the\n\nGovernor shall be as follows:\n\na. Two members shall serve for a term of office of two\n\n(2) years;\n\nb. Two members shall serve for a term of office of four\n\n(4) years; and\n\nc. One member shall serve for a term of office of six (6)\n\nyears.\n\nAt the expiration of the terms of office of the initial members\n\nappointed by the Governor, their successors shall be appointed for\n\nterms of office of six (6) years.\n\nD. Vacancies in the office of an appointed member shall be\n\nfilled for the unexpired term by the appointing authority making the\n\noriginal appointment. Except as prohibited by the Oklahoma\n\nConstitution, appointment to the Board of Trustees shall not\n\npreclude any member from holding any other private or public\n\nposition.\n\nE. The Board of Trustees shall prepare a budget request for the\n\nOklahoma School of Science and Mathematics and shall submit the\n\nbudget request to the Legislature and the Governor by October 1 of\n\neach year. The Board of Trustees may accept gifts of real and\n\npersonal property, money and other things, and use or dispose of the\n\nsame in accordance with the directions of the donors or grantors\n\nthereof.\n\nF.
