The State Board of Education shall solicit proposals for,\n\nand if funds are available, make grants to local boards of education\n\nfor the establishment of pilot projects that would aid in the\n\ndevelopment of Internet homework tutoring chatrooms. The proposals\n\nfor the Internet chatrooms shall create a mechanism that will allow\n\nstudents to contact and interact with teachers or other\n\nprofessionals when they are not at school, when the student needs\n\nassistance with courses or homework. Funding may cover the cost of\n\nequipment, materials, personnel, and any other start-up costs of\n\ndeveloping the Internet chatrooms. Projects may involve entire\n\ndistricts, combinations of districts, combinations of schools, or\n\nelements of schools individually or in combination.\n\nB. The State Board of Education shall determine pilot project\n\ncriteria and establish a process for the consideration of proposals.\n\nSuch proposals for pilot projects shall be considered on a statewide\n\ncompetitive basis.
