Stat. tit. 70, § 70-1210.900","heading":"Short title — Oklahoma Math Achievement and","body":"Proficiency Act — Legislative findings — Purpose.\n\nA. Sections 2 through 8 of this act shall be known and may be\n\ncited as the “Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency Act”.\n\nB. The Legislature finds that it is essential for children\n\nenrolled in the public schools in this state to develop strong\n\nmathematical proficiency early and consistently. The Legislature\n\nfurther finds that clear and visible goals, assessments to determine\n\nmath proficiency at each school, the use of scientifically based and\n\nresearched methodologies in math instruction, along with regular and\n\nperiodic measurements of school math improvement, and accountability\n\nat each level of the educational system will result in a significant\n\nincrease in the number of children performing at or above grade\n\nlevel in mathematics.\n\nC. The purpose of the Oklahoma Math Achievement and Proficiency\n\nAct is to ensure that student achievement in math is encouraged and\n\nprogression from one grade to another is determined, in part, upon\n\nproficiency in mathematics, that school district board of education\n\npolicies facilitate promotion of advanced math instruction and\n\nintervention services to address student math needs, and that each\n\nstudent and his or her parent or legal guardian be informed of the\n\nstudent’s progress in mathematics.\n\nD. Each public school district in this state shall ensure that\n\nall students receive a well-rounded education focused on building\n\ndeep foundations in mathematics, reading, and writing. The State\n\nBoard of Education shall encourage school districts to integrate the\n\nteaching of the other curricular areas in subject matter standards\n\nadopted by the Board with the instruction of mathematics, reading,\n\nand writing.\n\nE. All teachers of mathematics in the public schools in this\n\nstate shall incorporate into instruction the foundational elements\n\nof math instruction, including the development of grade-level\n\nappropriate mathematical proficiency which is a combination of real-\n\nworld problem-solving skills, procedural fluency, conceptual\n\nunderstanding, and productive dispositions.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"4a0efc7f2939342598559ac38af34607bf2c80b4e64ea505eb38fe7f8dfefaa9","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-1210.710","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-1210.901"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
