Stat. tit. 70, § 70-14-101","heading":"State Board of Career and Technology Education -","body":"Successor to State Board of Vocational and Technical Education.\n\nA. There is hereby created the State Board of Career and\n\nTechnology Education which shall succeed to all of the powers and\n\nduties heretofore invested in the State Board for Vocational\n\nEducation. The membership of the State Board of Career and\n\nTechnology Education shall consist of:\n\n1. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction who shall be\n\nan ex officio voting member;\n\n2. Two appointed members of the State Board of Education,\n\nselected by the Governor, to serve as ex officio voting members.\n\nOne State Board member shall be selected for a one-year term and one\n\nState Board member shall be selected for a two-year term;\n\n3. Five members to be appointed by the Governor with the advice\n\nand consent of the Senate. Each appointed member shall be an owner,\n\nchief executive or operating officer, or business executive with\n\npolicy-making or hiring authority for a business or industry located\n\nin the state or with a business or industry where a significant\n\nnumber of the workforce performs a task for which training or other\n\neducational service may be obtained from the career and technology\n\neducation system. The Governor shall appoint one such appointive\n\nmember from each of the congressional districts and any remaining\n\nmembers shall be appointed from the state at large.\n\nHowever, when congressional districts are redrawn each member\n\nappointed prior to July 1 of the year in which such modification\n\nbecomes effective shall complete the current term of office and\n\nappointments made after July 1 of the year in which such\n\nmodification becomes effective shall be based on the redrawn\n\ndistricts. Appointments made after July 1 of the year in which such\n\nmodification becomes effective shall be from any redrawn districts\n\nwhich are not represented by a board member until such time as each\n\nof the modified congressional districts are represented by a board\n\nmember. No member shall be appointed pursuant to this paragraph who\n\nhas not resided in the relevant congressional district for at least\n\nsix (6) months prior to the date of appointment; and\n\n4. One member who represents the public, private and/or\n\neducational interests of the state shall be appointed by the\n\nGovernor from the state at large with the advice and consent of the\n\nSenate.\n\nB. All initial appointments made by the Governor pursuant to\n\nthis act shall be for terms as follows:\n\n1. Initial appointments of the two members of the State Board\n\nof Education pursuant to paragraph 2 of subsection A of this section\n\nshall be for terms as follows:\n\na. one for a term to expire on April 1, 2004, and\n\nb. one for a term to expire on April 1, 2005;\n\n2. Initial appointments of the six members pursuant to\n\nparagraphs 3 and 4 of subsection A of this section shall be for\n\nterms as follows:\n\na. one for a term to expire on April 1, 2004,\n\nb. one for a term to expire on April 1, 2005,\n\nc. one for a term to expire on April 1, 2006,\n\nd. one for a term to expire on April 1, 2007,\n\ne. one for a term to expire on April 1, 2008, and\n\nf. one for a term to expire on April 1, 2009;\n\n3. The member appointed to represent the state at large shall\n\nbe the initial appointment for the term ending April 1, 2009;\n\n4. After the initial terms, all members appointed by the\n\nGovernor shall be appointed for terms of six (6) years. Initial\n\nappointments pursuant to the provisions of this section shall be\n\nmade no later than September 1, 2003. All terms shall expire on the\n\nfirst day of April of the year in which the term of each member\n\nexpires, except for the terms of office of members serving on the\n\nBoard on the effective date of this section, which shall expire\n\nAugust 31, 2003;\n\n5. The Chair of the Board shall be the State Superintendent of\n\nPublic Instruction. The Director of the Oklahoma Department of\n\nCareer and Technology Education shall serve as an ex officio\nst day of April of the year in which the term of each member\n\nexpires, except for the terms of office of members serving on the\n\nBoard on the effective date of this section, which shall expire\n\nAugust 31, 2003;\n\n5. The Chair of the Board shall be the State Superintendent of\n\nPublic Instruction. The Director of the Oklahoma Department of\n\nCareer and Technology Education shall serve as an ex officio\n\nnonvoting member and shall be the executive officer of the Board;\n\nand\n\n6. Members of the State Board of Career and Technology\n\nEducation shall be subject to the orientation and continuing\n\neducation requirements for school board members specified in\n\nSections 5-110 and 5-110.1 of this title. Failure of a member to\n\nsatisfy these requirements shall result in the member vacating the\n\nseat and the vacancy being filled as provided by law.\n\nC. No person shall be eligible to be appointed to serve on the\n\nBoard unless the person has been awarded a high school diploma or\n\ncertificate of high school equivalency.\n\nD. For each additional month employed, the additional salary\n\nshall be calculated on the basis of one-tenth (1/10) of the base\n\nsalary as prescribed by the school district for a teacher of like\n\nqualifications employed on a ten-months' basis.\n\nE. The official name of the Board which is known as the “State\n\nBoard of Vocational and Technical Education” shall be designated in\n\nall future references as the “State Board of Career and Technology\n\nEducation”.
