Stat. tit. 70, § 70-14-114","heading":"Legislative findings, purpose and intent","body":"The Legislature hereby finds and declares that there is an ever-\n\nincreasing number of persons in this state who, having fulfilled a\n\nrole as homemaker, find themselves \"displaced\" in their middle years\n\nthrough divorce, death of spouse or other loss of family income; as\n\na consequence, displaced homemakers are very often without any\n\nsource of income; they are ineligible for categorical welfare\n\nassistance; they are subject to the highest unemployment rate of any\n\nsector of the work force; they face continuing discrimination in\n\nemployment because they are often older and have no recent paid work\n\nexperience; they are ineligible for unemployment insurance because\n\nthey have been engaged in unpaid labor in the home; they are\n\nineligible for social security because they are too young, and for\n\nmany, they will never qualify for social security because they have\n\nbeen divorced from the family wage earner; they have often lost\n\ntheir rights as beneficiaries under employers' pension and health\n\nplans through divorce or death of spouse, despite many years of\n\ncontribution to the family well-being; and they are most often\n\nineligible for Medicaid and are generally unacceptable to private\n\nhealth insurance plans because of their age.\n\nThe Legislature further finds and declares that homemakers are\n\nan unrecognized part of the work force who make an invaluable\n\ncontribution to the welfare of the society as a whole.\n\nIt is the intention of the Legislature in enacting this chapter\n\nto provide the necessary counseling, training, jobs, services and\n\nsupport programs for displaced homemakers so that they may enjoy the\n\nindependence and economic security vital to a productive life and to\n\nimprove the welfare of this ever-growing group of citizens.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"5e319729bce3357150cccc8143280acc30b46c1fb653e71635ac01578cda70b6","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-14-113","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-14-115"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
