Stat. tit. 70, § 70-21-101.1","heading":"Exempt from licensing","body":"The term \"private school\" shall not include the following which\n\nare exempt from licensing by the Oklahoma Board of Private\n\nVocational Schools:\n\n1. Barber schools, beauty schools or other schools which are\n\nexclusively regulated or licensed pursuant to the provisions of any\n\nschool-licensing law of this state, although such school may choose\n\nto apply to secure a license for state authorization from the Board;\n\n2. Any form of flight instruction subject to regulations\n\npromulgated by the Federal Aviation Administration;\n\n3. Parochial, private or other nonpublic schools offering\n\nprograms of general education accredited or approved by the State\n\nBoard of Education, the State Board of Career and Technology\n\nEducation or the State Regents for Higher Education;\n\n4. Education or training, as approved by the Board, provided\n\nand paid for by:\n\na. an employer for its own employees,\n\nb. a professional organization, as approved by the Board,\n\nfor its members,\n\nc. a parochial, denominational, eleemosynary school or\n\ninstitution, which is sectarian in nature and uniquely\n\nuseful for and intrinsic to the propagation of a faith\n\nor the pursuit of the mission of the school or\n\ninstitution as approved by the Board, or\n\nd. an entity supported by taxation of a local or state\n\nsource;\n\n5. Education or training, as approved by the Board, which\n\noffers instruction solely in the field of an avocation, hobby,\n\nrecreation or entertainment, as approved by the Board;\n\n6. Professional prelicensing programs or continuing education\n\nprograms when an alternate state agency maintains complete authority\n\nor jurisdiction over the right to offer or certify such a program,\n\nregardless if the other agency mandates the subject matter of the\n\nprogram;\n\n7. Postgraduate certificates offered or provided by a school\n\nthat has approval for that specific program issued by another state\n\nagency or an accrediting agency approved by the Board;\n\n8. If a private school combines training or education that is\n\nboth licensed and not licensed by another state agency, licensing by\n\nthe Board will be required for the entity's combined programs.\n\nHowever, the Board will defer to the other state agency on matters\n\ncontained in the other agency's regulations and will refrain from\n\nestablishing conflicting requirements. Matters to be governed by\n\nthe other state agency may include but are not limited to\n\ncurriculum, testing or certification completion. The Board may\n\nrequire a private school to document its approval by any other state\n\nagency or an accrediting organization; and\n\n9. Seminars or workshops offered by an entity that:\n\na. is not primarily in the business of providing programs\n\nof instruction,\n\nb. provides instruction to advance the personal\n\ndevelopment or general, transferable skills of a\n\nparticipant, and\n\nc. offers aggregate clock or contact hours of no more\n\nthan twenty-four (24) clock or defined contact hours\n\nper calendar quarter of the calendar year.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"87df1b63f61cbb5d3490654013f408f9376027b3b0b8b6185b8d2d4aee727bfa","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-21-101","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-21-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
