The board of education of each school district in this state\n\nshall adopt a policy regarding suicide awareness and training,\n\nrequiring staff training and the reporting of student drug abuse.\n\nB. The board of education of each school district in this state\n\nshall provide training to all staff members in their first year\n\nemployed by the school district, and then no less than once every\n\nfifth academic year, addressing suicide awareness and prevention.\n\nThe Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services shall\n\nmake available to school districts’ curriculum for staff which\n\naddresses suicide awareness and prevention, without cost to the\n\nschool districts. The course outline for the curriculum shall be\n\nmade available to the public online through the school district\n\nwebsite. Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, every school\n\ndistrict shall:\n\n1. Provide a suicide prevention training program which includes\n\nas a core element evidence-based approaches;\n\n2. Provide the curriculum made available by the Department of\n\nMental Health and Substance Abuse Services; or\n\n3. Provide a suicide prevention training program that is\n\nselected by the school district from a list maintained by the\n\nDepartment of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services to school\n\ndistrict staff that addresses suicide awareness and prevention. The\n\ntraining program may be combined with any other training provided by\n\nthe school district addressing bullying prevention.\n\nC. Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, the board of\n\neducation of each school district may provide training to address\n\nsuicide awareness and prevention to students in grades seven through\n\ntwelve.\n\nD. Teachers, counselors, principals, administrators and other\n\nschool personnel shall be immune from employment discipline and any\n\ncivil liability for:\n\n1. Calling the 9-1-1 emergency telephone number, law\n\nenforcement or the Department of Human Services if they believe a\n\nstudent poses a threat to themselves or others or if a student has\n\ncommitted or been the victim of a violent act or threat of a violent\n\nact;\n\n2. Providing referral, emergency medical care or other\n\nassistance offered in good faith to a student or other youth; or\n\n3. Communicating information in good faith concerning drug or\n\nalcohol abuse or a potential safety threat by or to any student to\n\nthe parents or legal guardians of the student, law enforcement\n\nofficers or health care providers.\n\nE. No person shall have a cause of action for any loss or\n\ndamage caused by any act or omission resulting from the\n\nimplementation of this section or resulting from any training, or\n\nlack thereof, required by this section, unless the loss or damage\n\nwas caused by willful or wanton misconduct.\n\nF. The training required pursuant to this section, or the lack\n\nthereof, shall not be construed to impose any specific duty of care.\n\nG. The board of education of each school district may enter\n\ninto agreements with designated youth services agencies for the\n\nprovision of intervention and prevention services.\n\nH.
