Contingent on the availability of funding, the State\n\nDepartment of Education shall contract with a statewide nonprofit\n\nschool health program that promotes the health needs of students to\n\nestablish a School Health Coordinators Pilot Program. The purpose\n\nof the Pilot Program shall be to assist elementary schools and the\n\nHealthy and Fit School Advisory Committees in elementary schools in\n\nimplementing health and wellness programs and providing health and\n\nwellness information to students in the elementary schools. The\n\nState Department of Education shall oversee the Pilot Program. The\n\nPilot Program contractor shall coordinate the Pilot Program and\n\nprovide the required support to schools to allow for participation\n\nin the Pilot Program.\n\nB. The Department shall conduct the Pilot Program for a period\n\nof not less than five (5) years. The Pilot Program contractor shall\n\nemploy and provide for the salary and benefits of school health\n\ncoordinators, along with training and school support needed to\n\nimplement the Pilot Program. The number of school health\n\ncoordinators employed in years one and two of the Pilot Program\n\nshall be contingent upon funding and other factors as determined by\n\nthe Department in conjunction with the Pilot Program contractor. By\n\nyear three of the Pilot Program, not less than six school health\n\ncoordinators shall be employed by the Pilot Program contractor with\n\none school health coordinator assigned to each quadrant of the\n\nstate, one assigned to the Tulsa metropolitan area, and one assigned\n\nto the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. A Pilot Program\n\ncoordinator, Pilot Program contractor monitor, and additional school\n\nhealth coordinators may be employed if funds are available. A\n\nperson employed as a school health coordinator shall at a minimum\n\nhave a baccalaureate degree in health, community health, education,\n\nphysical education, or nursing.\n\nC. The school health coordinators shall be responsible for:\n\n1. Facilitating the activities of and providing assistance and\n\nexpertise to the Healthy and Fit School Advisory Committees in\n\nelementary schools;\n\n2. Providing professional development opportunities for\n\nteachers;\n\n3. Providing curriculum, materials, and resources to elementary\n\nschools for school health programs, which may include health\n\neducation, physical education, health services, nutrition services,\n\nschool climate, physical environment, health promotion and wellness,\n\nand youth, family, and community involvement;\n\n4. Assisting elementary schools in completing the School Health\n\nIndex;\n\n5. Interacting with parent organizations in public schools in\n\norder to educate parents about health and wellness issues; and\n\n6. Conducting a public health media campaign for students and\n\ntheir families.\n\nD. The Department and the Pilot Program contractor shall form a\n\nsteering committee with representatives from the State Department of\n\nHealth and other entities interested in school health to help\n\nprovide expertise, oversight and guidance for the Pilot Program.\n\nE. The Pilot Program contractor in partnership with an\n\nevaluation entity shall conduct an annual evaluation of the\n\neffectiveness and impact of the Pilot Program. A copy of the\n\nevaluation shall be submitted to the Governor, the Speaker of the\n\nHouse of Representatives, and the President Pro Tempore of the\n\nSenate.\n\nF.
