In order to recognize and pay tribute to veterans who left\n\nhigh school prior to graduation to serve in World War II, in the\n\nKorean War, or in the Vietnam War, a board of education of any\n\nindependent school district in this state is hereby authorized to\n\ngrant a diploma of graduation to any veteran who meets the\n\nrequirements as listed in subsection B of this section. School\n\ndistricts are further encouraged to present such diplomas in\n\nconjunction with appropriate Veterans Day programs.\n\nB. To be eligible for a high school diploma pursuant to this\n\nsection, a veteran shall:\n\n1. Have been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the\n\nUnited States of America;\n\n2. Have served on active duty or have been discharged with a\n\nservice-connected disability between the dates of September 16,\n\n1940, and December 31, 1946, or between the dates of June 27, 1950,\n\nand January 31, 1955, or between the dates of May 13, 1961, and\n\nApril 29, 1975; and\n\n3. Be a resident of the State of Oklahoma.\n\nC.
