There is hereby created the Biological Survey Office of the\n\nState of Oklahoma, which shall be under the direction and\n\nsupervision of the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma.\n\nB. The director of the Oklahoma Biological Survey shall be\n\nappointed by the Board. The salary of the director shall be\n\ndetermined by the Board.\n\nC. The Oklahoma Biological Survey shall:\n\n1. acquire, archive, process and disseminate information on\n\nbiological resources and natural areas that is or could be of value\n\nto policy and decision makers in the state;\n\n2. act as a representative of the state in biological matters,\n\nexclusive of wildlife matters under the authority of the Wildlife\n\nConservation Commission and exclusive of matters pertaining to\n\nagriculture, both within and outside the state when necessary or\n\nappropriate, or when requested to do so by proper authority, which\n\nshall include among others the legislative or executive branches of\n\nstate government;\n\n3. conduct research, investigations, and interpretive programs\n\npertaining to natural areas and biological resources, including but\n\nnot limited to distributions of animal and plant forms within the\n\nstate and their relationships to one another and their environment\n\nexcept as those matters pertain to agriculture;\n\n4. maintain an inventory of natural and scientific areas, an\n\ninventory of natural ecosystems and their components, and an\n\ninventory of habitats of rare and endangered species of plants and\n\nanimals;\n\n5. maintain as part of an herbarium, a plant collection that is\n\nrepresentative of but not restricted to the flora and plant\n\ncommunities of Oklahoma, which among other benefits will support\n\nresearch and investigative programs;\n\n6. participate in the Oklahoma Natural Heritage Program,\n\nincluding development of and responsibility for the Oklahoma Natural\n\nHeritage Inventory of the state's habitats and species, which among\n\nother benefits will provide a centralized and continually updated\n\ninventory of the biological diversity of Oklahoma that will contain\n\naccurate and timely information for environmental planning, resource\n\nmanagement, protection of significant natural areas, endangered\n\nspecies review, and biological research and education; and\n\n7. as authorized by the Board of Regents of the University of\n\nOklahoma, contract with private entities or state agencies to assist\n\nin the training of students and the citizenry with respect to\n\nbiological resources and their importance to Oklahoma.\n\nD. The establishment of the Biological Survey Office shall in\n\nno way preclude or limit research and educational activities\n\nconcerning biological resources and natural areas by universities,\n\ncolleges, or other governmental entities.\n\nE. The director is authorized to certify copies as being\n\nauthentic reproductions of biological resource records held in the\n\nstate.\n\nF.
