Stat. tit. 70, § 70-3409","heading":"Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and","body":"Mechanical Colleges - Eligibility, appointment and terms of members\n\n- Removal - Vacancies.\n\n(a) The Board of Regents created by Section 31a, Article 6,\n\nOklahoma Constitution, shall be known as the Board of Regents for\n\nthe Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges. It shall consist\n\nof nine (9) members, one of whom shall be the President of the State\n\nBoard of Agriculture, the remaining eight members to be appointed by\n\nthe Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate.\n\nProvided, that persons now serving on such Board shall be members of\n\nand shall continue to serve on the Board for the terms for which\n\nthey were appointed.\n\n(b) Appointments shall be to numbered positions on the Board,\n\nand the terms of members of the Board shall be, as follows:\n\n(1) Position No. 1. Effective April 5, 1990, the term of\n\noffice of one member shall expire on the 4th day of April, 1998, and\n\neach eight (8) years thereafter, and the member shall be, and shall\n\nhave been for not less than five (5) years prior to appointment, a\n\nresident and elector of this state.\n\n(2) Position No. 2. Effective April 5, 1991, the term of\n\noffice of one member shall expire on the 4th day of April, 1999, and\n\neach eight (8) years thereafter, and the member shall be, and shall\n\nhave been for not less than five (5) years prior to appointment, a\n\nresident and elector of the Second Congressional District.\n\n(3) Position No. 3. Effective April 5, 1992, the term of\n\noffice of one member shall expire on the 4th day of April, 2000, and\n\neach eight (8) years thereafter, and the member shall be, and shall\n\nhave been for not less than five (5) years prior to appointment, a\n\nresident and elector of this state.\n\n(4) Position No. 4. Effective April 5, 1993, the term of\n\noffice of one member shall expire on the 4th day of April, 2001, and\n\neach eight (8) years thereafter, and the member shall be, and shall\n\nhave been for not less than five (5) years prior to appointment, a\n\nresident and elector of the First Congressional District.\n\n(5) Position No. 5. Effective April 5, 1994, the term of\n\noffice of one member shall expire on the 4th day of April, 2002, and\n\neach eight (8) years thereafter, and the member shall be, and shall\n\nhave been for not less than five (5) years prior to appointment, a\n\nresident and elector of the Fifth Congressional District.\n\n(6) Position No. 6. Effective April 5, 1995, the term of\n\noffice of one member shall expire on the 4th day of April, 2003, and\n\neach eight (8) years thereafter, and the member shall be, and shall\n\nhave been for not less than five (5) years prior to appointment, a\n\nresident and elector of this state.\n\n(7) Position No. 7. Effective April 5, 1996, the term of\n\noffice of one member shall expire on the 4th day of April, 2004, and\n\neach eight (8) years thereafter, and the member shall be, and shall\n\nhave been for not less than five (5) years prior to appointment, a\n\nresident and elector of the Third Congressional District.\n\n(8) Position No. 8. Effective April 5, 1997, the term of\n\noffice of one member shall expire on the 4th day of April, 2005, and\n\neach eight (8) years thereafter, and the member shall be, and shall\n\nhave been for not less than five (5) years prior to appointment, a\n\nresident and elector of the Fourth Congressional District.\n\n(9) Position No. 9. This position shall be occupied by the\n\nPresident of the State Board of Agriculture.\n\nHowever, when congressional districts are redrawn, each member\n\nappointed prior to July 1 of the year in which such modification\n\nbecomes effective shall complete the current term of office and\n\nappointments made after July 1 of the year in which such\n\nmodification becomes effective shall be based on the redrawn\n\ndistricts. Any member whose named congressional district has been\n\nremoved due to redistricting shall be appointed from the state at\n\nlarge.\nmember\n\nappointed prior to July 1 of the year in which such modification\n\nbecomes effective shall complete the current term of office and\n\nappointments made after July 1 of the year in which such\n\nmodification becomes effective shall be based on the redrawn\n\ndistricts. Any member whose named congressional district has been\n\nremoved due to redistricting shall be appointed from the state at\n\nlarge.\n\n(c) A majority of the members appointed by the Governor shall\n\nbe farmers, who are actually engaged in farming and/or livestock\n\ngrowing as their principal business or occupation in earning a\n\nlivelihood; and no state, national or county officer shall be\n\nappointed as a member of the Board until two (2) years after tenure\n\nas such officer has ceased.\n\n(d) No member of the Board of Regents shall be employed upon\n\nany work to be performed in connection with any of the Agricultural\n\nColleges or Oklahoma State University of Agriculture and Applied\n\nScience, nor shall any member of said Board enter into any contract\n\nor business dealings with any of said Agricultural Colleges, in the\n\nway of buying, selling or exchanging livestock, or any other\n\nbusiness transactions involving a financial consideration.\n\n(e) Members of the Board shall be removable only for cause, as\n\nprovided by law for this removal of officers not subject to\n\nimpeachment.\n\n(f) Vacancies on the Board shall be filled by the Governor, for\n\nthe unexpired term, by and with the advice and consent of the\n\nSenate.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"ec11207c363f167a8e4d7798da7ab1be3297e85cdce3f29624dbf07c9cfdc9fd","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-3408","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-3410"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
