Stat. tit. 70, § 70-4404","heading":"Board of Trustees - Tenure - Election of successors -","body":"Vacancies.\n\n(a) The governing board of a community junior college shall be\n\nknown as the Board of Trustees and shall be composed of seven (7)\n\nmembers who are qualified electors of the junior college district,\n\nas follows: Position No. 1, with a term expiring one (1) year from\n\nthe effective date of the first appointment thereto, and each seven\n\n(7) years thereafter; Position No. 2, with a term expiring two (2)\n\nyears from the effective date of the first appointment thereto, and\n\neach seven (7) years thereafter; Position No. 3, with a term\n\nexpiring three (3) years from the effective date of the first\n\nappointment thereto, and each seven (7) years thereafter; Position\n\nNo. 4, with a term expiring four (4) years from the effective date\n\nof the first appointment thereto, and each seven (7) years\n\nthereafter; Position No. 5, with a term expiring five (5) years from\n\nthe effective date of the first appointment thereto, and each seven\n\n(7) years thereafter; Position No. 6, with a term expiring six (6)\n\nyears from the effective date of the first appointment thereto, and\n\neach seven (7) years thereafter; Position No. 7, with a term\n\nexpiring seven (7) years from the effective date of the first\n\nappointment thereto, and each seven (7) years thereafter.\n\n(b) An election shall be held in such community each year, on\n\nthe fourth Tuesday in January, to select the successor of the member\n\nof the governing board whose term expires during the year. Such\n\nelection shall be conducted by the county election board of the\n\ncounty having the greatest part of the territory in the community.\n\nEach elected member shall be elected for a term of seven (7) years,\n\nand until his successor is elected and qualified. Vacancies in the\n\nmembership of the board shall be filled by the remaining members of\n\nthe board, for a period extending until the next regular community\n\njunior college district election, at which time an election\n\nconducted as provided in this section shall be held to fill any\n\nbalance of the unexpired term; provided however, that if the board\n\ndoes not fill the vacancy by appointment within seventy (70) days\n\nafter the same occurs, it shall be mandatory on the part of the\n\ncounty election board to call a special election to fill the vacancy\n\nfor the unexpired term, which election shall be held for the\n\nelection of a board member only and said election shall be conducted\n\nin the same manner as the regular election.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"4816de107ec246b6a52c8461c38fc2e906ccedc872d91b9a9b4d3855f58443b5","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-4403","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-4405"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
