Stat. tit. 70, § 70-5-102","heading":"Independent school districts","body":"All independent school districts in Oklahoma shall be those\n\nwhich shall have maintained during the previous year a school\n\noffering high school subjects fully accredited by the State Board of\n\nEducation.\n\nA reasonable deviation from any of the requirements enumerated\n\nherein shall not operate to prohibit the State Board of Education\n\nfrom designating any district as independent if the other\n\nrequirements are sufficiently superior to the minimum standards\n\nrequired herein, but standards therefor shall be reduced to writing\n\nand a copy thereof sent to all districts maintaining high schools in\n\nOklahoma at least one (1) year prior to the time the requirements\n\nbecome effective. Until the effective date thereof, the requirements\n\nhereinabove enumerated shall remain in full force and effect. As a\n\nbasis for attaining the status of independent school district, high\n\nschools shall be inspected by a member of the division of secondary\n\neducation of the State Board of Education or such other\n\nrepresentative as the State Board of Education shall designate, and\n\nall of the standards prescribed by the State Board of Education\n\nshall be carefully checked in the presence of the district\n\nsuperintendent of schools or board of education of the district. A\n\nwritten report shall be made and mailed to the district\n\nsuperintendent of schools and board of education within thirty (30)\n\ndays after the time of such inspection. Such report shall indicate\n\nif the high school meets the requirements and, if not, a statement\n\nshall be made as to what must be done in order to comply therewith.\n\nAfter any school district has become independent, it shall\n\nremain so until removed from independent status by the State Board\n\nof Education, which, however, shall not remove any school district\n\nfrom independent status until it is satisfied that the minimum\n\nstandards for independent school districts are not being maintained.\n\nAny order of the State Board of Education removing a school district\n\nfrom independent status shall not become effective until the close\n\nof the fiscal year in which such order is made, and any order\n\nremoving a school district from independent status which has\n\nheretofore been made by the State Board of Education, regardless of\n\nnotice or effective date thereof, is hereby validated.
