Stat. tit. 70, § 70-5-156","heading":"Protests - Right to examine filed budget","body":"Within fifteen (15) days after the filing of any school district\n\nbudget with the county excise board of each county in which the\n\nschool district is located and with the State Auditor and Inspector,\n\nany taxpayer may file protests with the State Auditor and Inspector\n\nagainst any alleged illegality of the budget in the manner provided\n\nby this section and Sections 3023 through 3031 of Title 68 of the\n\nOklahoma Statutes. The fifteen-day protest period begins upon the\n\ndate the budget is received in the Office of the State Auditor and\n\nInspector as filed by the county excise board. After receipt of a\n\ntaxpayer protest, the State Auditor and Inspector shall transmit by\n\ncertified mail one copy of each protest to the clerk of the board of\n\neducation, and one copy of each protest to the school district\n\ntreasurer and the excise board of each county in which the school\n\ndistrict is located. The taxpayer protest shall specify the alleged\n\nillegality in the budget and the grounds upon which the alleged\n\nillegality is based. Any protest filed by any taxpayer shall inure\n\nto the benefit of all taxpayers. If no protest is filed by any\n\ntaxpayer within the fifteen-day period, the budget and any\n\nappropriations thereof shall be deemed legal and final until amended\n\nby the governing body or the county excise board as authorized by\n\nlaw. Taxpayers shall have the right at all reasonable times to\n\nexamine the budget on file with the clerk of the board of education,\n\nthe county excise board, or the State Auditor and Inspector for the\n\npurpose of checking illegalities in the budget or for filing\n\nprotests in accordance with this section and Sections 3023 through\n\n3031 of Title 68 of the Oklahoma Statutes.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"2c2d31eb4083245e17113a73bfa93507f62a07907414e1741965339142a7c129","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-5-155","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-5-157"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
