Stat. tit. 70, § 70-6-101.3","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in Section 6-101 et seq. of this title:\n\n1. \"Administrator\" means a duly certified person who devotes a\n\nmajority of time to service as a superintendent, elementary\n\nsuperintendent, principal, supervisor, vice principal or in any\n\nother administrative or supervisory capacity in the school district;\n\n2. \"Dismissal\" means the discontinuance of the teaching service\n\nof an administrator or teacher during the term of a written\n\ncontract, as provided by law;\n\n3. \"Nonreemployment\" means the nonrenewal of the contract of an\n\nadministrator or teacher upon expiration of the contract;\n\n4. \"Career teacher\" means a teacher who:\n\na. is employed by a school district prior to the 2017-\n\n2018 school year and has completed three (3) or more\n\nconsecutive complete school years as a teacher in one\n\nschool district under a written continuing or\n\ntemporary teaching contract, or\n\nb. is employed for the first time by a school district\n\nunder a written continuing or temporary teaching\n\ncontract during the 2017-2018 school year and\n\nthereafter:\n\n(1) has completed three (3) consecutive complete\n\nschool years as a teacher in one school district\n\nunder a written continuing or temporary teaching\n\ncontract and has achieved a district evaluation\n\nrating of \"superior\" as measured pursuant to the\n\nTLE as set forth in Section 6-101.16 of this\n\ntitle for at least two (2) of the three (3)\n\nschool years,\n\n(2) has completed four (4) consecutive complete\n\nschool years as a teacher in one school district\n\nunder a written continuing or temporary teaching\n\ncontract, has averaged a district evaluation\n\nrating of at least \"effective\" as measured\n\npursuant to the TLE for the four-year period, and\n\nhas received district evaluation ratings of at\n\nleast \"effective\" for the last two (2) years of\n\nthe four-year period, or\n\n(3) has completed four (4) or more consecutive\n\ncomplete school years in one school district\n\nunder a written continuing or temporary teaching\n\ncontract and has not met the requirements of\n\nsubparagraph a or b of this paragraph, only if\n\nthe principal of the school at which the teacher\n\nis employed submits a petition to the\n\nsuperintendent of the school district requesting\n\nthat the teacher be granted career status, the\n\nsuperintendent agrees with the petition, and the\n\nschool district board of education approves the\n\npetition. The principal shall specify in the\n\npetition the underlying facts supporting the\n\ngranting of career status to the teacher;\n\n5. \"Teacher hearing\" means the hearing before a school district\n\nboard of education after a recommendation for dismissal or\n\nnonreemployment of a teacher has been made but before any final\n\naction is taken on the recommendation, held for the purpose of\n\naffording the teacher all rights guaranteed by the United States\n\nConstitution and the Constitution of Oklahoma under circumstances\n\nand for enabling the board to determine whether to approve or\n\ndisapprove the recommendation;\n\n6. \"Probationary teacher\" means a teacher who:\n\na. is employed by a school district prior to the 2017-\n\n2018 school year and has completed fewer than three\n\n(3) consecutive complete school years as a teacher in\n\none school district under a written teaching contract,\n\nor\n\nb. is employed for the first time by a school district\n\nunder a written teaching contract during the 2017-2018\n\nschool year and thereafter and has not met the\n\nrequirements for career teacher as provided in\n\nparagraph 4 of this section;\n\n7. \"Suspension\" or \"suspended\" means the temporary\n\ndiscontinuance of the services of an administrator or teacher, as\n\nprovided by law;\n\n8. \"Teacher\" means a person defined as a teacher in Section 1-\n\n116 of this title; and\n\n9. \"District evaluation rating\" means the rating issued based\n\non the components of the TLE as set forth in subsection B of Section\n\n6-101.16 of this title.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"2a93a05874b43fe8e6380e3b3ca49dfa7602ee392482372eac3ed0be91f0e257","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-6-101.29","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-6-101.30"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
