Stat. tit. 70, § 70-6-122.11","heading":"Issuance of one-year alternative teacher certificate","body":"Notwithstanding any other provision of the law, the State Board\n\nof Education shall issue a one-year alternative teacher certificate,\n\nrenewable for up to three (3) years, to teach early childhood\n\neducation or elementary education to any qualified candidate who:\n\n1. a. has successfully completed a terminal degree, such as\n\na doctorate of philosophy, a doctorate in education,\n\nprofessional doctorates, a master of fine arts degree\n\nor a master of library science degree, from an\n\ninstitution accredited by a national or regional\n\naccrediting agency which is recognized by the\n\nSecretary of the United States Department of\n\nEducation. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher\n\nEducation shall be consulted to verify other terminal\n\ndegrees, or\n\nb. holds at least a baccalaureate degree from an\n\ninstitution whose accreditation is recognized by the\n\nOklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and has\n\ntwo (2) years post-degree-completion qualified work\n\nexperience in a field that corresponds to early\n\nchildhood education or elementary education; and\n\n2. Declares the intention to earn standard certification by\n\nmeans of the early childhood and elementary education alternative\n\ncertification program in not more than three (3) years and has:\n\na. within the first year satisfactorily completed six (6)\n\ncredit hours in classroom management and reading\n\ninstruction from an educator preparation program\n\napproved and accredited by the Commission for\n\nEducational Quality and Accountability, completed the\n\nrequired State Department of Education approved\n\ntraining on cognitive science of how students learn to\n\nread and participated in a yearlong mentorship or\n\ninstructional coaching in reading and classroom\n\nmanagement provided by the employing school district\n\nprior to the renewal of the provisional certificate\n\nfor a second year,\n\nb. within the second year satisfactorily completed six\n\n(6) credit hours in child development and math\n\ninstruction from an educator preparation program\n\napproved and accredited by the Commission for\n\nEducational Quality and Accountability, participated\n\nin an additional yearlong mentorship and/or\n\ninstructional coaching in child development and math\n\ninstruction provided by the employing school district\n\nprior to the renewal of the provisional certificate\n\nfor a third year, and successfully completed the\n\nsubject area portion of the competency examination\n\nrequired in Section 6-187 of this title in the area of\n\nspecialization for which certification is sought, and\n\nc. within the third year satisfactorily completed six (6)\n\nadditional credit hours of professional education\n\ncoursework from an educator preparation program\n\napproved and accredited by the Commission for\n\nEducational Quality and Accountability, participated\n\nin an additional yearlong mentorship and/or\n\ninstructional coaching provided by the employing\n\nschool district, and successfully passed the\n\nprofessional knowledge portions of the competency\n\nexamination required in Section 6-187 of this title in\n\nthe area of specialization for which certification is\n\nsought.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"2c3e8cfb7076267b18652c837a6b76cc75c7c12fa17dac163c3e1a30f0d18861","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-6-122.10","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-6-122.12"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
