Stat. tit. 70, § 70-6-122.8","heading":"Issuance of certificates to teach in the area of mild-","body":"moderate or severe-profound disabilities or comprehensive special\n\neducation.\n\nA. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the State Board\n\nof Education shall issue a standard certificate in the area of mild-\n\nmoderate disabilities, severe-profound disabilities or comprehensive\n\nspecial education to any individual who has:\n\n1. Earned a bachelor's level college degree from an accredited\n\ninstitution of higher education;\n\n2. Successfully completed the prescribed coursework that may be\n\nrequired for a master's degree in special education from an\n\naccredited institution of higher education and any examinations\n\nrequired to obtain a standard certificate in mild-moderate\n\ndisabilities, severe-profound disabilities or comprehensive special\n\neducation;\n\n3. Successfully completed the appropriate subject area\n\ncompetency examination as required pursuant to Section 6-187 of this\n\ntitle;\n\n4. On file with the State Board of Education a national\n\ncriminal history record check as required pursuant to Section 5-142\n\nof this title; and\n\n5. Submitted an application and payment of the required\n\ncertification fee.\n\nB. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an individual\n\nwho holds a current standard certificate pursuant to subsection A of\n\nthis section can satisfy the highly qualified teacher requirement\n\nfor early childhood education or elementary education by successful\n\ncompletion of the early childhood education or elementary education\n\nexaminations.\n\nC.
