Stat. tit. 70, § 70-6-195.1","heading":"Continuing education for mathematics teachers –","body":"Implementation contingency – Verification of expenditure levels.\n\nA. It is hereby declared to be the intent of the Legislature to\n\nestablish a continuing education program whereby teachers employed\n\nto teach mathematics may obtain certification in mathematics and\n\nteachers certified to teach mathematics in the state may take higher\n\neducation courses in order to obtain the competencies needed to\n\nenable the teacher to successfully complete the subject area\n\nexaminations and become certified to teach any of the core\n\ncurriculum mathematics courses recommended by the State Department\n\nof Education. The program shall pay up to One Hundred Dollars\n\n($100.00) per credit hour up to a maximum of twenty-four (24) credit\n\nhours for a teacher to take higher education courses in mathematics.\n\nTeachers required to gain certification as provided in Section 6-\n\n189.1 of this title shall be given priority in the funding for the\n\ncontinuing education program. The purpose of the program is to\n\nimprove the knowledge and skills of teachers and to ensure that the\n\nchildren of the state are taught by professional educators, fully\n\nprepared in the area of mathematics.\n\nB. Implementation of this section shall be contingent upon the\n\nappropriation of state funds by the Legislature for the specific\n\npurpose of implementing this section. Nothing in this section shall\n\nprevent the State Board of Education or a school district board of\n\neducation from utilizing private, local, or federal funds to\n\nimplement this section.\n\nC. Implementation of this section shall be delayed until the\n\ncurrent expenditure per pupil in average daily attendance in public\n\nelementary and secondary schools in unadjusted dollars for the 1998-\n\n99 school year or any school year thereafter for Oklahoma, as\n\nreported by the National Center for Education Statistics annually in\n\nthe Digest of Education Statistics, reaches at least ninety percent\n\n(90%) of the regional average expenditure for that same year, and\n\nfunds are provided. For purposes of this section, the regional\n\naverage expenditure shall consist of the current expenditure per\n\npupil in average daily attendance in public elementary and secondary\n\nschools in unadjusted dollars for each of the following states:\n\nArkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and\n\nTexas, averaged together. By January 1 of each year, the State\n\nBoard of Education shall report whether or not the ninety-percent\n\nexpenditure level has been reached based on information reported\n\nannually in the Digest of Education Statistics by the National\n\nCenter for Education Statistics.
