Stat. tit. 70, § 70-6-401","heading":"School personnel electronically or digitally","body":"communicating with students — Inclusion of parents or guardians.\n\nA. As used in this section:\n\n1. \"Electronic or digital communication\" includes, but is not\n\nlimited to, emails, text messages, instant messages, direct\n\nmessages, social media messages, messages sent through software\n\napplications, and any other electronic digital means of\n\ncommunication; and\n\n2. \"School personnel\" means teachers, coaches, administrators,\n\nschool bus drivers, or any other persons employed full-time or part-\n\ntime by a public school or charter school.\n\nB. School personnel engaging in electronic or digital\n\ncommunication with an individual student shall include the student's\n\nparent or guardian in any electronic or digital communication,\n\nunless such communication is on a school-approved platform and\n\nrelated to school and academic communications.\n\nC. Exceptions to the requirement in subsection B of this\n\nsection may be made in case of an emergency, subject to subsequent\n\nnotification to the parent or guardian. School personnel shall make\n\nreasonable efforts to use school-approved platforms, systems, or\n\napplications that allow automatic inclusion of parents or guardians\n\nin communications with students.\n\nD. Schools shall provide training, developed by the State\n\nDepartment of Education, for school personnel on the student\n\ncommunication requirements of this section.\n\nE. Any school personnel who is reported to be in violation of\n\nsubsection B of this section shall be put on administrative leave\n\nwhile the school district investigates the incident and notifies the\n\nboard of education. If the investigation finds that no misconduct\n\noccurred, the school personnel shall be reinstated and the incident\n\nshall be noted in the school personnel's employee file. If the\n\ninvestigation finds misconduct occurred, the school personnel shall\n\nbe disciplined according to the school district board of education's\n\npolicy, up to and including termination of employment, and the\n\nincident shall be reported to law enforcement pursuant to Section\n\n1210.163 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes.","path":["OK Code","Title 70"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os70.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"906f63434696ba42c100148a9dec92aaeb76aeae14989f59efe430109f0b9dd7","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-6-212","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-70-70-6000"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
